Description
Under the supervision of the Airport Director performs a variety of unskilled to skilled physical tasks in maintaining airport equipment and airport facilities. Essential functions of job include but are not limited to the safe operation of tools and equipment, bush hogs, tractors, mowers, and weed eaters.

Assures that the appropriate tools and equipment are available for each job assignment.
Conducts maintenance and repair activities.
Maintains the equipment, tools in good condition, and maintenance records.
Inspects all vehicles, power tools, and specialized equipment daily or prior to use.
Utilize bush hog, weed eater, tractor, and mower to perform essential functions of job.
Inspects and maintains the airport runways/taxiways, field and terminal buildings, fences and roads.
Maintains airport grounds and surrounding roads as required.
Typical Qualifications
Ability to operate bush hog, tractor, mower, and weed eater. Prepare and follow written instructions: judgment and initiative are required in making decisions in accordance with established guidelines: ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships, perform a wide variety of skilled and semi-skilled building maintenance and repair work. Knowledge of standard tools to include bush hog, tractor, mower, and weed eater; methods and practices involved in airport building maintenance and repair, including safe work practices, estimating materials and labor needs.
Acceptable Training and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent and three years experience performing duties of like nature.
Certificates and Licenses Required:
Possession of a valid Louisiana driver's license with a good driving record.

This insurance is payable in the event of your death from any cause, at any time or place, while you are insured. Payments will be made to the beneficiary, as designated by you. UNEMPLOYMENT COMPENSATION INSURANCE: The City pays the entire cost for these benefits.
VISION INSURANCE: The City offers vision insurance; however, enrollment is voluntary and the cost of the premium is the responsibility of the employee. If an employee elects vision coverage, the premium will be deducted automatically from the employee's paycheck.
VOLUNTARY INSURANCE: The City offers regular full-time employees additional voluntary coverage from independent companies through payroll deductions including; short term disability, critical illness, whole life, accident and cancer. Details are available through the Human Resources Department.
WORKER'S COMPENSATION INSURANCE: As required by law, the City pays the premium for Worker's Compensation Insurance.
ll. Membership
CAFETERIA PLAN: The purpose of the Cafeteria Plan is to provide employees with an option for pretax deductions for insurance premiums and/or medical/childcare reimbursements. The Staffing and Benefits Administrator will be happy to discuss these benefits with you.
CREDIT UNION MEMBERSHIP: City employees are eligible for membership in Pelican State Credit Union and La Capitol Federal Credit Union. Membership can enable you to borrow money at low interest rates, and/or open and maintain and IRA account.

lll. RETIREMENT
RETIREMENT PLAN: City of Hammond regular full-time employees are eligible to participate in Police Municipal Employee Retirement System, Municipal Firefighter Retirement System, or Municipal Police Retirement System. Enrollment is mandatory at the time of hire. Temporary employees who anticipate working more than three months are required to enroll in the Plan. Details are found in the Personnel Policies Manual.
SERVICE AWARDS: The City honors its long- term employees by presenting service awards at an annual City function. Service awards are issued to employees who have completed 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35 years of service.
IV. LEAVE
DISABILITY LEAVE OF ABSENCE: An approved disability leave may be granted for up to twelve (12) weeks in accordance with the Family and Medical Leave Act. Whenever possible, you are required to give (30) days or as much notice possible of your pending need for disability leave of absent.
