A Brief Overview
The Equipment Coordinator RN is responsible for overseeing the various projects and work-streams related to equipment, instrumentation, implants, and supplies. This includes, but is not limited to: trialing, purchasing, inventory control, and processing of these items across the KOPH Peri-op unit. This individual partners closely with leadership across all levels of the organization to provide oversight for the planning and procurement of needed supplies, implants, instrumentation, and equipment for all service lines. This individual will also partner with the Program Manager of HLDS for the development, performance, and effectiveness of the HLDS program in accordance with the HLDS programmatic philosophy and goals. The role will require close partnership with Supply Chain disciplines including Central Processing, Procurement, and Inventory Management as well as collaboration with supporting departments such as OSMO, Nursing, Biomed, Facilities, IPC, and Regulatory/Compliance. This individual collaborates with reprocessing team/champions to ensure proper care/competency, handling, cleaning, and preparation for items that require HLDS and storage.
The role practices clinical nursing at the level of an advanced beginner to expert practitioner of professional nursing in accordance with, and guided by the CHOP Nursing Professional Practice Model. The nurse at this level demonstrates competence in caring for patients and families and progresses to caring for those with the most complex problems/highest acuity in the designated clinical area. Provides age/developmentally appropriate care. Care is delivered through RN leadership for patient care within the framework of family-centered care.
What you will do

  • Operational Management:
  • Provides oversight to the activities of the supplies, implants, instrumentation, and equipment needs of the unit as well as the HLDS program
  • Implements specific metrics, goals, standards, and objectives which directly support the strategic plan and vision of the KOPH Peri-op services
  • Ensures clear channels of communication exist with staff in order to address concerns in an expeditious manner
  • Possesses excellent communication skills at multiple levels of the enterprise. Ability to prepare and present presentations and analysis to leaders. Able to facilitate teams to successful resolution of challenging issues
  • Education and Competency:
  • Collaborates with CNE’s for the training and education of the department regarding implant storage and documentation and specific IFU’s as it relates to instrumentation and equipment HLD/S
  • Serves as a resource to the departments performing HLD/S duties, and all ancillary departments who perform decontamination, disinfection, and sterilization when necessary
  • Participates in joint activities as directed by leadership
  • Regulatory/Accreditation Leadership:
  • Works to achieve continual readiness through regulatory control initiatives. Implements systems to facilitate regulatory compliance.
  • Collaborates with Program Manager, HDLS to develop regulatory expertise in both clinical and non-clinical settings, keeping up with any updates, trends, mandates, etc.
  • Conducts regular service rounds to determine effectiveness and compliance. Seeks out information from customers using formal and informal methods.
  • Process Improvement/Project Management:
  • Serve as project leader on process improvement initiatives including implementing organizational change, data management, process mapping, and communications
  • Identifies and implements improvements using CHOP approved PI methodologies
  • Maintains departmental procedures as standards or requirements change
  • Communicates regularly with project sponsors, team leaders, process owners and other stakeholders about team progress toward goal achievement, any critical factors and obstacles.
  • In collaboration with project sponsors, develops project work-plans including identification of key stakeholders, deliverables, timelines and required resources. Oversees project logistics such as meeting schedules, agenda development, production and distribution of meeting materials and preparation of required reports on project status and activities. Maintains all relevant project documentation
  • Clinical Practice:
  • Follows the nursing process to deliver safe, compassionate, and culturally effective care.

Education Qualifications

  • Technical Diploma Nursing Required
  • Bachelor's Degree Nursing Preferred

Experience Qualifications

  • At least five (5) years experience in the operating room and/or central sterile processing field Required
  • At least three (3) years experience related to HLDS Required
  • At least three (3) years experience in working with clinical teams required Required

Skills and Abilities

  • Good verbal and written communication skills (Required proficiency)

Licenses and Certifications

  • Registered Nurse (Pennsylvania) - Pennsylvania State Licensing Board - upon hire - Required
