Position Overview
The "Equipment Area Manager" is ultimately responsible for Asset Procurement, Asset Management and Asset Maintenance with direct focus on Total Cost of Ownership over the life of a fleet within a defined company, region or division. This position requires technical abilities, performance management skills, financial understanding and industry knowledge.
Key Responsibilities
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
- Ensure employee driven safety culture is in place and effective.
- Ensure total cost of ownership exceeds industry standards in order to provide the organization a competitive advantage in market.
- Identify correct fleet levels for identified and forecasted company volume.
- Complete component life cycle analysis.
- Work with the business leaders/GM's to develop a strategic disposal plan.
- Work with operations to optimize operating conditions at sites to improve overall equipment performance (i.e improve haul roads, stockpile management, etc.).
- Promote partnering with OEM dealers.
- Optimize Asset Base
- Manage leasing activities for your respective area coverage.
- Determine lease vs. buy program that optimizes lifecycle costs.
- Consistently communicate as necessary with operations to identify needed repairs and ensure maximum utilization of fleet.
- Maintain open communication with all shop personnel.
- Train and educate shop personnel.
- Manage, develop and retain high performing shop managers
- Utilize performance management skills, communication and knowledge to ensure financial success, safety awareness, and operational excellence.
- Challenge and hold team members accountable to deliver results.
- Forecast necessary costs, CAP-EX and repairs.
- Create 5 year cap-ex plan (target fleet).
- Coordinate with business leaders/GMs to provide CAP-EX justifications.
- Manage all repairs as necessary either through vendor management or internal mechanics.
- Drive overall company strategy and equipment excellence programs throughout identified area/s of responsibility.
- Provide follow up and ensure sustainability of all OPS initiatives and financial impact.
- Track, measure and provide feedback on all Performance Management KPI's.
- Effectively maintain and purchase bulk fuel.
- Oversee all fuel inventories and reconciliation.
- Drive Innovation through application of new technology.
Education/Experience
- Associate's degree or related experience required with a minimum of 5 years of equipment management experience required.
- Experience working with electronic equipment management systems preferred.
- Experience managing P&L responsibility preferred.
- Experience in mining, construction or manufacturing would be beneficial
