Job description

JOB SUMMARY: Teaching and supervising riding lessons and sessions to ensure a safe and productive learning experience for all participants.

JOB DUTIES:

Supervision:

Schedule lessons to ensure adequate supervision of training activities and program management.

Perform duties consistent with improving the quality of activities and increasing the opportunities for participants.

Assist in training in the equestrian and recreational equestrian programs.

Provide performance feedback to program participants as assigned.

Riding Program:

Provide a clean and safe training environment. Complete daily check of program area to ensure cleanliness, maintenance and safety of the area.

Lead and instruct programs as designated. Make decisions to coincide with riding participants' needs.

Assist with, carry out and supervise the program as assigned.

Inform Program Manager of any problems or changes of a program participant in a timely manner.

Participate in public relations activities as assigned.

Horse Care/Daily Duties:

Assist in selection of appropriate horse and equipment for programs.

Monitor animal care on daily basis.

Relay veterinarian and farrier needs of animals to Program Manager in a timely manner

Assist in daily working and grooming of horses as necessary.

Responsible for care and maintenance of equipment. Notify Program Manager when equipment is in need of repair.

Assist with general maintenance of barn, horses, and Arena grounds.

Documentation and Staffing:

Exhibit working knowledge of facility safety/emergency procedures.

Complete all required documentation in the absence of the Program Manager

Establish and maintain good rapport with program participants, boarders, staff and the community.

Assist in maintaining work area, supplies and materials.

Attend staff meeting and in-service training as scheduled.

Assist with fire and disaster drills, complete the necessary report.

Communicate effectively both in verbal and in written form.

Additional Duties as Assigned:

Completion of additional duties may be required to meet the program needs.

Two to three years’experience working with horses and teaching lessons.

Six months experience working with persons with disabilities preferred.

Thorough working knowledge of appropriate animal care, selection, and first aid required. Stable experience a must.

Ability to be a contributing team member and work cooperatively with staff and agency personnel, families and community.

Sufficient physical stamina and mobility for lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling. Ability to lift 100 pounds at any time during scheduled shift.

Ability to stay calm and not become angry when working with individuals receiving services who are upset.

Ability to effectively supervise staff/volunteers in a mature and responsible manner in daily routine and programmatic activities.

Must be willing to undertake any additional training required for position.

High school diploma or GED required.

Must be 18 years of age or older.
