ASRT, Inc. provides scientific, information management, management consulting, bioinformatics, and administrative program support to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and other Federal and private sector clients. The successful candidate will be a full-time employee of ASRT, Inc., and will be assigned to the Division of Foodborne, Waterborne, and Enteric Diseases (DFWED), National Center for Emerging and Zoonotic Infectious Diseases (NCEZID), CDC located at 1600 Clifton, Atlanta, GA, to provide services to fulfill the mission of the Waterborne Disease Prevention Branch (WDPB).
SCOPE OF WORK
The Epidemiologist will provide support to the Waterborne Disease Prevention Branch (WDPB) in preventing disease in the United States and abroad by supporting wastewater disease surveillance activities, supporting the design, implementation, analysis, and evaluation of epidemiological studies, and providing quantitative univariate, multivariate analysis support for epidemiologic data, with task specific direction from staff epidemiologists.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide support to federal, state, international and local health department disease and outbreak surveillance activities
- Analyzes health, surveillance, and other epidemiologic data
- Manage surveillance systems and other epidemiologic study databases, including data management from provisioning, receipt, transformation, cleaning, and analysis
- Coordinate ongoing epidemiologic studies, in collaboration with staff
- Support outbreak investigations led by state, local, and territory partners
- Analyze and summarize wastewater surveillance data for publication in peer-reviewed literature or CDC websites or presentation at regional, nation, or international scientific meetings
- Develop analysis plans for epidemiologic studies and routine analysis of surveillance data and oversee data migration when needed, for example from one platform to another (e.g., MrInterview to REDCap),
- Work collaboratively with data analyst staff to analyze data as needed for specific projects, epidemiologic studies, and surveillance activities
- Train partners to use surveillance systems currently in place to support disease surveillance
- Manage, use, and provide user experience feedback on surveillance systems to increase surveillance data quality
- Ensure surveillance data quality in surveillance systems, including working with state, local, and territory partners to receive, review, clean, and finalize surveillance data
- Ensure epidemiologic study data quality in study databases systems
- Develop project timelines with realistic milestones
- Provide regular reporting on project and work progress to internal (supervisory, peer, leadership) and external partners)
- Facilitate a collaborative working environment by participating in working meetings and conference calls, including setting up meetings for external partners and facilitating conversations
- Work collaboratively to develop communication materials with health promotion messages for the prevention and control of infectious diseases
- Support the development of training materials to build capacity for wastewater surveillance programs in state and local health departments
- Maintain surveillance, data management system, and data analysis program fluency with appropriate trainings and software skills
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
- Master of Public Health (MPH), or Master's degree with a concentration in public health
Required:
- Previous experience in a similar role
- Knowledge and experience with R, PySpark, and Python
- 2-4 years of work experience in public health
- Excellent time management and organizational skills
- Quantitative skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Excellent organizational, intrapersonal, writing, and speaking skills for working with an interdisciplinary team including scientific and non-scientific collaborators
- Experience preparing written documents and giving oral presentations
Desirable:
- Strong background in data management and program evaluation
- Global health and health communication experience is desirable
Language Skills:
- The candidate must possess excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
