Chenega Enterprise Systems and Solutions, LLC, a Chenega Professional Services’ company, is looking for a Senior Epidemiologist to support the CDC Division for Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention (DHDSP) to perform spatiotemporal surveillance of cardiovascular disease using a range of data sources, geographic units, sociodemographic populations, and statistical methods; and bring a Health Equity/social determinants of health perspective to the study of spatiotemporal trends in cardiovascular disease.

Responsibilities

 

 

  • Provide supportive services for monthly staff meetings. Candidate will provide support to administer monthly staff meetings relating to spatiotemporal activities. This includes administrative and logistical support activities including, developing meeting agendas, sending e-mails to participants with meeting details, and summarizing the meeting minutes in writing.
  • Conduct literature reviews and prepare summaries.
  • Conduct literature reviews of SDoH and CVD rates and trends at the community level, including literature reviews of other relevant disciplines such as sociology, economics, public policy, etc.
  • Conduct inter-disciplinary literature reviews to identify variable definitions and data sources that address community-level measures such as economic development, tax revenues and expenditures, employment structure, housing structure, and other characteristics that influence the ability of communities to provide living and working environments that support heart-healthy and stroke-free living.
  • Create databases and summaries based on results from the literature reviews.
  • Compile measures of social determinants of health and Health Equity at the community level.
  • Identify and compile a range of traditional and non-traditional community-level SDoH and Health Equity variables and relevant data sources that address geographic disparities in community-level socioeconomic resources and built environments, along with how those resources are distributed differentially by sociodemographic group and urban-rural status.
  • Document the geographic units of availability for each of the variables (e.g. county, census tract, zip code, etc.). The contractor will coordinate with on-going SDoH, Health Equity and DEIA activities, priorities and approaches within the Branch, Division, Center, and Agency.
  • Conduct spatiotemporal epidemiologic studies of CVD and social determinants of health with a Health Equity lens.
  • Conduct spatiotemporal epidemiologic studies of CVD rates and trends and SDoH with a Health Equity lens using a range of epidemiologic approaches such as spatiotemporal surveillance, spatial patterns of association, and spatial patterns of geographic proximity to health care and preventive services.
  • Conduct statistical analyses of the spatial and spatiotemporal trends in CVD and social determinants of health using multiple geographic units of analysis and utilize a wide range of geocoded datasets.
  • Use a range of geographic units of analysis, including but not limited to, county, census tract, and zip code, in the spatiotemporal analyses of cardiovascular disease and SDoH.
  • Utilize a wide range of datasets that include data on CVD morbidity, mortality and risk factors, socioeconomic conditions, built and physical environments, community resources, health care services, and more.
  • Communicate results of the spatiotemporal surveillance of cardiovascular disease and social determinants of health via written and oral communication.
  • Disseminate study results of spatiotemporal surveillance of CVD and SDoH through reports, manuscripts submitted to peer-reviewed journals, professional conference posters and/or presentations, CDC websites, and social media as identified by the Small Area Analysis Team Lead and the COR.
  • Other duties as assigned


Qualifications

 

 

 

 

  • Master’s Degree in Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Sociology, Economics, or Social Work.
  • Completion of a Ph.D. or work towards a Ph.D. in any of these areas would also be very desirable.
  • 5+ years of experience plus have publications.
  • Researcher with intermediate or advanced experience analyzing spatial and/or spatiotemporal data, studying community-level measures of social and economic conditions, and strong writing, research, and critical thinking skills

 

 

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated experience in the SDoH and Health Equity best practices as applicable to community public health settings and surveys. The researcher should have intermediate or advanced experience analyzing spatial and/or spatiotemporal data, studying community-level measures of social and economic conditions, and strong writing, research, and critical thinking skills.
  • Demonstrated intermediate or advanced experience using statistical software (e.g. SAS, R).
  • Strong project management, project coordination and prioritization skills,
  • Ability to recognize client needs,
  • Exceptional organizational and collaboration skills.
  • Capable of taking direction and being adaptable to change.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Exceptional customer service orientation
  • Attention to details and deadlines ensuring effective task management.
