Position Summary: Responsible for the overall operation and control of the process De-Ionized Rinse Water System, the operation and maintenance of the Thermal Wastewater Evaporator and for the treatment, recycling or disposal of plating rinse water and spent process solutions. This position provides assistance to the Environmental Compliance Manager concerning the overall operation and regulatory responsibilities involving environmental and safety concerns.
Primary Job Functions:
- Conducts basic operation of de-ionized water/wastewater treatment system, including (but not limited to) the following activities:
- * Operation and maintenance of Hydraulic Filter Press and related equipment (for the treatment of spent chemicals, process solutions and wastewater)
- * Regeneration of Ion Exchange Resin columns
- B* ackwash of Activated Carbon columns
- * Documenting the treatment and analysis of spent chemicals and process solutions (Batch Treatment Logs and “Waste Disposal Form” and “Waste Analysis Form”)
- Ensures that adequate process water is supplied to the Plating Department and that the water is of sufficient quality for production purposes
- Operates and maintains Thermal Wastewater Evaporator, related equipment and pre/post evaporator solution including (but not limited to) the following activities:
- Start-up and periodic monitoring
- * Routine additions of Antifoam/Odor Control products (including documentation of adds)
- * Transfer, processing and collection (in totes) of post-evaporator solution
- * Cleaning and basic preventative maintenance of Evaporator and related equipment
- * Documentation of Evaporator operation (including; start/finish date, Evaporator runtime, gallons processed, natural gas meter reading, etc.)
- * Troubleshooting of any problems associated with the operation of the Evaporator
- Conducts “Daily & Weekly Waste-Treatment Checklists “(consisting of; Flow Meters, Totalizer Meters, Floor Collection Pumps, City TDS/pH meter calibrations, etc.)
- Ensures proper labeling of all Hazardous and Non-Hazardous waste drums as required by federal, state, and local regulations. All while preparing waste drums for off-site shipments
- Conducts inventory of waste drums and maintains current (up-to-date) list (“Drum Inventory”) of drums to be treated on-site and/or disposed of off-site and/or accumulation
- Serves as the main point of contact of all Hazardous and Non-Hazardous waste shipments and other chemical product shipments
- Conducts Monthly “Portable Fire Extinguisher Inspections”
- Conducts daily & weekly Exhaust Scrubber inspections as required by Air Quality Permit
Requirements:
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience working in a chemical, environmental and/or wastewater treatment field is required
- Prior experience involving the handling of hazardous materials, hazardous waste or experience working in wastewater treatment operations is required
- Knowledge of environmental and safety regulations regarding state (ADEQ and ADOSH) and federal (EPA, OSHA, DOT, etc.) is required
- A basic understanding of the health hazards associated with working around hazardous chemicals is beneficial
