SUMMARY
General duties include solid waste management, groundwater remediation system operation, and support of environmental programs as directed. Duties are performed in the field and office setting.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Inspect environmental systems daily or as directed; monitor and adjust systems as necessary
- Collect, pack, and ship environmental samples (water, air, haz-waste)
- Coordinate local waste shipments including communication with local agencies (KPB, ADEC), disposal facilities, and transporters
- Conduct weekly refinery-wide waste inspections
- Manage regulated waste streams, including records, manifesting, and transportation/shipping
- Collect remediation system readings
- Manage environmental inventory (drums, sorbents, etc)
- Monitor specific environmental conditions related to assigned projects to ensure compliance with applicable state and federal regulations
- Support environmental compliance programs as directed by Environmental Specialists
- Write maintenance notifications as needed and follow work to completion
- Read and comprehend environmental federal and state regulations
- Perform other duties as assigned
Required QUALIFICATIONS
- Familiar with monitoring equipment, pumps, motors and controls.
- Ability to run forklift.
- Environmental compliance understanding.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel - data entry, chain-of-custodies, analytical sample result interpretation
- Must possess and maintain a valid Alaska Driver's License
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word
- Must have or be able to obtain a valid TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential) card and HAZWOPER certification
- High School Diploma
- At least 18 years of age
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with environmental compliance
- Experience in refining or chemical industry
- Experience and certification in handling/managing hazardous waste (RCRA)
- Experience utilizing various hand tools in a work setting
- Robust organizational and documentation skills
- Ability to interpret environmental federal and state regulations
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to stand, walk, lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Must be able to wear appropriate PPE and perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation. Requires climbing and walking in inclement weather.
