Environmental Specialist/Utility Construction Forester

Seeking a motivated and highly skilled individual to provide planning, scheduling, reporting, and project coordination for utility right-of-way management programs.

ARBORMETRICS specializes in combining the power and expertise of our people, software, and hardware into mobile workforce solutions that streamline your vegetation management program.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
  • Provide routine assignments and tasks which are designed to develop and enhance forestry, environmental, or sediment inspection expertise.
  • Assist in wetlands delineation, wetland mitigation, natural stream restoration, environmental inspection, endangered species surveys, air and noise studies, FEMA floodplain map revisions, watershed management, environmental impact statement, and environmental assessment.
  • Onsite Erosion & Sediment inspection, soil mapping, identifying types and engineering properties related to the identification, design, and implementation of road, drainage, and erosion control plans and solutions.
  • Inspections, provides advice on operations, construction, procedures, and records to ensure compliance with environment/agricultural laws, regulations, and company policies
  • Research easement and land rights for widths, rights, and restrictions
  • Establish the work and respond to public questions and concerns
  • Respond to contractor questions concerning work specification and requirements
  • Document work activity using GIS and custom work planning software
  • Monitor and assist with forestry, road building or reclamation activities associated with new construction Assist in the management of contractors during storm restoration operations
  • Provide support and assistance as assigned by the utility
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Competency in personal computing skills, GIS knowledge preferred.
Education & Experience
  • 2 or 4-year degree in Forestry, Construction Project Management, Environmental Science, or related degree.
  • 2+ years of applicable work experience preferred.
Pre-Screen
  • Upon offer, employees may be required to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen, background, and/or MVR check.
License & Certifications:
  • Valid Driver's License Required.
Physical Requirements:
  • RARE (less than 10%): stooping, kneeling, squatting, body twisting, crawling, climbing poles, lifting over 10 lbs. to 50 lbs., color vision, lifting, pushing, pulling, climbing ladders, climbing stairs, lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • OCCASIONAL (up to 33%): sitting, manual dexterity, climbing on/off truck, gripping, reaching, range of motion, carrying, balancing, lifting up to 10 lbs.
  • FREQUENT (up to 66%): standing, walking, sense of touch, seeing distant, reading, hearing-speech range, depth perception.
  • CONTINUOUS (up to 100%): speaking clearly, seeing.
Safety

Due to the inherently dangerous nature of the industry and requirements to work with or around hazardous equipment, employees must have sufficient eyesight to judge distance/coordination of equipment and tools, be able to maintain attention and concentration for extended periods, be able to withstand exposure to all kinds of weather while completing work assignments, be able to wear personal protective equipment as necessary, be able to enter and exit a vehicle numerous times a day, have the endurance necessary to traverse various terrain, be capable of performing job duties throughout a standard 8- or 10-hour day, be able to communicate with others, read, write, and comprehend written/verbal job instructions and information, and communicate and handle conflict professionally.

  • Works in all temperatures and weather
  • May work around excessive noise from machines, chain saw, wood chippers, and other equipment with hearing protection
  • May be exposed to nature i.e., irritating plants and biting or stinging insects, and dust
  • May work on unlevel terrain
  • May be exposed to dogs and other animals
