You'll be responsible for the County Fuel Tank Compliance Program at all Sarasota County owned/leased locations. While working to reach ISO 28300:2008 compliance, this role will conduct Sarasota County inspections and field investigations of sites of industrial activity and other pollution sources under Federal EPA and Florida FDEP Regulations to including Florida Statutes Chapters 376.301, 376.303, 62-761, 62-762, F.A.C. and the Sarasota County Code. Other environmental programs may be added in the future.
- Independently schedule and perform inspections of petroleum storage tanks for compliance with State regulations; analyze records and equipment test results; perform data entry into the State database system; advise the supervisor on non-compliance issues and compliance assistance re-inspections for facilities that need to return to compliance. This position interacts extensively with various Sarasota County departments (Risk, Public Utilities, Public Works, etc.), governmental agencies, and internal staff to resolve violations.
- Investigate concerns and reports of conditions, spills and clean-up efforts of Sarasota County Fuel tank sites.
- Conduct field investigations to document site conditions and potential violations. Inspection activities include field inspections and associated data analysis to determine compliance with standards. Prepares reports on investigative findings. Performs data input and management of large data sets. Manages associated compliance activities. This position interacts extensively with governmental agencies, and internal staff to resolve pollution concerns through education, cooperation, and compliance. Acts as compliance official working with State DEP officials and internal staff to assure tanks meet performance and safety requirements. This includes all fuel system components. Maintains all required certifications and FDEP required inspection data. Maintains various field equipment to ensure they are calibrated correctly and in good working condition. Works with contracted vendor to assure repairs are completed promptly. Manages data in State and County systems.
- Conduct spill response training, and ensure all required activities are properly permitted and in compliance with applicable regulations. Act as the subject matter expert for the team and provide knowledge in areas of tank services. Assist in the development of plans and tasks to ensure compliance with Federal, State and Local regulations.
- Bachelor’s degree in one of the biological or physical sciences, environmental engineering or related field AND 2 years professional experience.
- Master’s degree may substitute for one year of professional experience.
- Progressively responsible professional experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required college degree.
- Any OSHA Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure courses.
- Environmental Compliance Certificates.
