In addition to contractual COLA increases, the annual salary of $78,899 will increase by $400 on the anniversary date for three years
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: The incumbent in this position is responsible for oversight and coordination of programs related to West Nile virus and other environmental health programs. The incumbent is supervised by the Director of Environmental Health. Responsibilities include promoting public education, encouraging community awareness and regional prevention and control measures. Oversight may be exercised over technical staff. Does related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:
· Coordinate the county’s West Nile Prevention Program which includes coordinating mosquito control with all municipalities, including larviciding, adulticiding, and mosquito habitation reduction;
· Maintain and coordinate surveillance vertebrate host program;
· Maintain and coordinate vector surveillance program;
· Oversee and coordinate other vector control activities;
· Supervise public health technicians;
· Maintain database and informational material;
· Prepare community and outreach materials for dissemination through public education staff;
· Participate in other environmental health programs such as food, water, air and soil safety.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
OPEN- COMPETITIVE: Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with at least a Bachelor's Degree which includes the successful completion of a minimum of 30 semester credit hours in natural science, biology or related courses and two (2) years of experience in environmental health activities in New York State. Transcripts are required.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
1. Possession of a valid New York State Driver’s License.
2. Within one (1) year of appointment, certification as a Certified Commercial Category 8 Pesticide Applicator.
