Tetra Tech is seeking an Environmental Scientist, Industrial Hygienist, Geologist, or Engineer to work in theirKansas City, Missouri office to provide project management and support on various environmental projects.

Your Role:

This position will support a variety of contracts, including federal, state, local, and commercial clients. Responsibilities will include project management, subcontractor management, preparation of sampling plans, field studies including the collection of asbestos, lead, mold, soil, groundwater, surface water and indoor air samples, interpretation of sample data and preparation of data summary reports, regular maintenance and calibration of equipment used during field studies, and supporting other environmental studies.  This position will require outdoor work as well as overnight travel.

In this position you will be part of a project team, in some cases as a project manager and in other cases as project support staff.  You will gain valuable data collection experience in the field, while managing project budgets and preparing detailed analysis of field data and project reports.  Tetra Tech provides mentoring and training opportunities to help staff hone their areas of expertise and diversify their interests.  Overtime (over 40 hours per week) is paid, but not required, and flexible work schedules are part of the Tetra Tech culture. 

 

Qualifications:

Candidates should have 2-10 years of environmental consulting/industrial hygiene experience with hazardous materials, specifically conducting asbestos, lead-based paint and mold surveys; remediation oversight/air monitoring and development of remediation designs, proposals, cost estimates, and deliverables for hazardous materials projects is required. Candidates must also be able to drive a motor vehicle and pass a motor vehicle records check.

Phase I and II environmental site assessments and investigations, field sampling (soil, ground water, soil gas etc.), RCRA and CERCLA regulatory requirements, and technical report writing is preferred.  Desired skills in the ideal candidate include but are not limited to:

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Client relations and organizational skills.
  • Highly motivated, customer focused and work well both independently and in a team environment.
  • Ability to manage a heavy workload and travel as needed. 
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.

 

Education:

  • B.S. in Environmental Science, Biology, Geology or Engineering required.  Advanced degrees preferred.
  • Current EPA AHERA Asbestos Inspector certification, EPA Lead Risk Assessor/Inspector certification required.
  • PG, CHMM, NIOSH 582, Missouri Air Sampling Professional, 40-hour OSHA training with Hazmat or other certifications are desirable.  If the successful candidate does not already possess this training, Tetra Tech will provide training prior to initiating regular work duties in the field. 

 

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to lift sample coolers and other equipment up to 50 pounds.  
  • Must be able to wear full-face respirator and complete annual medical monitoring program, including pulmonary function testing.

 

Work Environment:

Project work could occur nationwide, but most will be in Kansas, Missouri, Iowa, or Nebraska during all seasons, including peak summer and winter conditions.  Outdoor work will be required, and overnight travel may be necessary for up to two weeks at a time, with the majority of travel consisting of 2-4 days at a time.
