Associate Scientist - Investigation and Remediation | Essential Functions

  • Communicate with Project Managers, regulators, clients, field technicians, and vendors/subcontractors in the office.
  • Help plan sampling and data collection for air, vapor, soil, surface water, stormwater, groundwater, hazardous waste, non-aqueous phase liquids (NAPLs), and wastewater for laboratory testing.
  • Properly review paperwork to document field activities and compliance inspections.
  • Apply scientific and engineering principals to the design, collection, and interpretation of environmental data.
  • Apply standard practices and techniques in specific situations, adjust and correlate data, recognize discrepancies in results, and follow operations through a series of related detailed steps or processes.
  • Aid in troubleshooting, operations, and maintenance of mechanical and electronic systems including pumps, remediation systems, and monitoring equipment.
  • Provide design input, select components, and fabricate or oversee fabrication of mechanical and electrical systems for implementing remediation technologies
  • Complete monitoring, remediation, and compliance activities, including but not limited to:
    • Review of sampling forms for groundwater, wastewater, air, and/or stormwater,
    • Overseeing planning for drilling operations, monitoring/recovery well construction, land surveying, and remedy construction
    • Remedial system operation and maintenance
    • Documentation, packaging, and shipping of environmental samples, proper management, characterization, and handling of waste (hazardous and non-hazardous).

Associate Scientist - Investigation and Remediation | Competencies

  • Ability to work in office environment.
  • Must be extremely reliable and have a curiosity for problem solving, possesses a strong desire to learn and succeed, pay attention to detail, and maintain a high level of energy/engagement.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills, including being mechanically inclined and resourceful in diagnosing and correcting issues that arise in the office.
  • Effective communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Ability to read and interpret work plans, maps, designs, and construction documents.
  • Effective time-management skills, with the ability to multi-task and maintain flexibility in a dynamic work environment.
  • Preparation of clear, concise reports that include tabular, numerical, and graphical presentation and analysis of environmental data.
  • Ability to interact with co-workers effectively, professionally, and positively, clients, vendors, the general public, and other business contacts.

Associate Scientist - Investigation and Remediation | Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

  • This is a full-time position. Ability to work flexible hours with some weekend and holiday work required.

Associate Scientist - Investigation and Remediation | Education and Experience

  • For insurability purposes, a valid Driver's License is required.
  • Undergraduate degree in Engineering or related discipline is required.
  • Proficiency with standard applications in the Microsoft Office suite.
  • Passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam, or willing and capable of passing this exam within one-year of hire.
  • One to five years of professional experience preferred.
  • 40-hour HAZWOPER and confined space certifications preferred.
  • Experience with AutoCAD/GIS experience required; Matlab experience.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to walk, stand, use hands and fingers, grip, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; and talk and hear. Ability to regularly lift and carry 50 pounds. Sitting 75%, standing/walking 25%.
