Raba Kistner is seeking a detailed-oriented, dependable Environmental Scientist Ito join our Environmental team in the greater Conroe, TX area. The Environmental Scientist I responsibilities encompass supporting and contributing to a successful Environmental Services Division through execution of compliance, geosciences, and/or natural resource tasks under the supervision or guidance of a project manager/technical expert. Responsibilities include performance of field activities including but not limited to site evaluations, data collection, geologic mapping, and soil, groundwater and surface water sampling activities. Environmental Scientist I responsibilities also include analysis of data, data reduction and preparation of technical reports. Other responsibilities include:

  • Conduct fieldwork and data reduction to support environmental projects.
  • Interpret technical information and assist with preparation of technical reports.
  • Assist with preparation of registrations, permits and other submittals required by federal, state, or local agencies for our clients.
  • Perform desktop studies and coordinate with resource agencies to identify project related environmental constraints (TPWD, USFWS, TCEQ, THC and others).
  • Position can be worked remote from Conroe but will occasionally travel to the Houston office location.
  • Assist with environmental construction monitoring for various projects.
  • Coordinate activities of subcontractors on assigned projects.
  • Participate in Phase I and/or Phase II Environmental Site Assessments.
  • Participate in geophysical evaluations.
  • Participate in natural resources and NEPA-related studies.
  • Conduct storm water inspections.
  • Participate in regulatory compliance audits.
  • Participate in public involvement activities.
  • Interact with clients as necessary.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Environmental Science/Engineering, Chemistry, Geology, Biology, or related field required. 0-3 years of relevant experience preferred. Experience executing Environmental Compliance (air, water, waste), Geosciences (remediation, environmental site assessments, environmental due diligence) and Natural Resources (NEPA, wetland and waters of the US delineations) projects or project Tasks is desired. Practical experience operating geographic data collection and other scientific data collection equipment as well as field sample collection (air, soil, groundwater, surface water) protocols and procedures. 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER preferred. Good oral and written communications skills and ability to work in teams at different levels within the organization. Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane, algebra, solid geometry and trigonometry. Intermediate - Advanced in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Publisher). Must be self-motivated with good attendance record and be able to work independently. Able to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner. Demonstrate ability to work on multiple projects while producing accurate information and meeting deadlines. Possess a valid driver’s license within the applicable jurisdiction and meet company’s auto insurability requirements. Able and willing to travel out of town and overnight to Raba Kistner offices, client offices, and project locations if necessary. Able to travel to project sites and maneuver over rough and uneven terrain and work in different weather conditions.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate (business office with computers/printers, light traffic, etc.) or loud.

Potential exposure to movement of heavy equipment on construction or roadway sites; potential exposure to hazardous dangerous chemicals and solvents, noise, dust, fumes, grease and oils, radiant and electrical energy, and vibration; all of which would require employee to follow proper safety procedures and utilize appropriate protective equipment.

This position may require protracted or irregular hours. Flexibility to work irregular hours is necessary due to client needs.
