Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Manager (On-Site)

SUMMARY

The EHS Specialist operates in a leadership role, developing and maintaining a positive Environmental Health and safety culture by maintaining a visible presence throughout the facility and fostering safety on a daily basis. This role partners with the Vice President of Human Resources to coordinate Safety Compliance and proactively reviewing and strategically planning to reduce the company’s liability as it relates to Workers Compensation. In addition, the EHS Manager assumes OSHA required training and retraining responsibilities to include: Fork lift, Hazard Communications, Confined Space Entry and Emergency Response.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Manage federal, state and local regulatory aspects of safety programs, including compliance with applicable safety regulations, company requirements and guidelines.
• Responsible and accountable for assisting in the preparation, submission, and documentation of all EPA and OSHA Reporting Requirements, up to but not limited to OSHA 300 Log, Hazardous Waste Generators Annual Report, Air Emissions Annual Inventory Report, Tier II Report and TRI Report.
• Partner with the HR Manager to oversee the Employee Safety Committee
• Partner with the HR Manager in monitoring the Safety Boards and creating/administering calendar of safety events.
• Periodically audit Safety Polices to assure compliance with Federal and State regulations and keep current with new changes to the statutes.
• Recommend training to improve safety throughout the Company.
• Responsible for communicating Safety Polices and their individual requirements to employees, supervisors and management while providing support to all departments to achieve individual safety goals.
• Work within corporate guidelines to document and investigate work related accidents and illnesses. Assure that individuals responsible have satisfactorily performed their duties and minimize avoidable incidents as much as possible and participates in all OSHA recordable and environmental incident investigations.
• In conjunction with the Human Resources Manager, review and identify worker’s compensation claims to identify potentially fraudulent claims. Also includes working with Human Resources and insurance carriers to return worker’s compensation employees back to work as soon as possible.
• Facilitate OSHA mandated training and/or retraining where practical (i.e. fire safety, first aid, environmental, etc.)

QUALIFICATIONS

• College degree in Industrial Safety and/or Human Resources or related experience.
• One (1) to three (3) years prior plant safety experience.
• Familiarity with computers and utilizing computer software.
• Classroom and Hands-on Training Experience
• Knowledge of OSHA, NIOSH, EPA, and DNR statues and recommendations.
