ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH INTERN - Seasonal Employment

Hourly Pay $20 / hour; 12-Week Limited Term Grant Funded Position

Brief Under the general direction of the Environmental Supervisor, assists
Description the Environmentai Health staff in the operation of the vector
of Duties: surveillance and control program, to enforce state and local laws and
ordinances related to public health, carry out deliverables of public
health grants; and respond to and resolve citizen complaints
regarding nuisances and reported epidemics. Conduct public
education regarding the importance of reducing or elimination sources
of mosquito breeding and exposure to mosquitoes. Implement tasks
related West Nile Virus source reduction such as identify, document
and/or remediate sources of standing and or stagnant water. Conduct
food service investigations to identify and control non-mosquito
vectors such as mice and rats. Collect, enter and analyze data.
Identify and document discarded tires, cans, plastic container,
ceramic pots and other unused water-holding containers on private
and commercial properties. Perform other work-related duties as
assigned. Work will be performed both outdoors and in an office
setting.
Required Must be 18 years old prior to beginning employment; A student
Education, actively pursuing a Bachelor or Master's degree in Environmental
Irainincf and Health, Public Health or other science related field; Understand and
Experience: apply basic entomology and pest control principles; Able to
effectively use Microsoft Office Suite software; Ability to
communicate effectively and courteousiy with co-workers and the
public; Must follow ail safety rules and regulations of the Village;;
Must possess a valid Driver's License.

JOB IDENTIFICATION

JOB PURPOSE
Responsible for assisting the Environmental Health staff in the operation of the vector
surveillance and control program, to enforce state and local iaws and ordinances related to
public health and to carry out the deliverables of public health grants; and to respond to
and resolve citizen complaints regarding nuisances and reported epidemics.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Conducts ongoing surveillance and controi activities for mosquitoes, ticks, rodents and
a reservoir for disease producing organisms.
- Conducts tasks related to West Niie Virus (WNV) source reduction such as identify,
- Responds to inquiries, investigate complaints, conduct evaluations, and provide technical

agencies and organizations to promote integrated pest management of human disease

PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
The work functions of this position are representative of medium work exerting up to 50
pounds of fore occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10
pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Whiie performing the duties of this job, the empioyee is regularly required to stand, walk,
reach with hands and arms, stoop, knee! and crouch. Must have adequate hearing in order to
communicate with co-workers and the public.
Work is performed outdoors subject to year-round climate conditions. Work is also performed
indoors, In an office-type area, that is quiet, except for office/communJcations equipment
background noises.
