The Opportunity
This EHS Specialist position works out of our Altavista, VA location in the Abbott Nutrition Division and is aprofessional who applies established EHS principles, practices, regulations and internal standards, interacts with customers and is solutions-minded in completing EHS assignments.
What You'll Work On
- Project Management: • Plan and conduct assigned projects. Coordinate and monitor activities/projects. Assist planning and monitor status of implementation for those assigned to project. Make judgments regarding quality of implementation. Facilitate the definition of a project scope with stakeholders. Estimate and coordinate resources needed to accomplish assigned individual tasks. Jointly responsible for achieving the project's EHS targets in support of business objectives.
- Technical: Apply technical knowledge/skills to EHS programs and systems. Benchmark internally across the organization. Participate and/or assist other professionals and management in the application of standard EHS theories, concepts, and techniques. Investigate and perform analysis. Report findings. Prepare and communicate recommendations and action plans.
- Problem Solving/Innovation: Interpret problems/recommend solutions. Analyze patterns/trends, interpret data and make recommendations. Make suggestions to improve methods/designs/processes. Recognize and implement good ideas/innovations. Consistently generate/adopt original solutions to problems and reduce them to practices.
- Organizational Interface: Establish contacts with immediate supervisor, project leaders, and other professionals. Prepare written communication. Convey information effectively through formal and informal documents and meetings with team members, both internal and external to Abbott, using appropriate communication protocols, e.g. develop proposals. Conduct reviews. Provide audience targeted content. Prepare project summaries. Obtain approval to proceed with proposed action plans. Contribute willingly and incorporate the ideas of others. Share resources, knowledge, and accountability to benefit the objectives of the business; understand own limitations. Establish and build relationships, good communication and ensure stakeholder satisfaction. Initiate and cultivate open, professional relationships with stakeholders by establishing rapport, developing an understanding of others' needs, promoting common goals, and following through on commitments.
- Compliance: Support compliance with all applicable regulations and internal standards. Assist in the identification of potential EHS risks and consequences of new and modified processes/systems/regulations and take appropriate action. Stay current on changing technical requirements, regulations and internal/external standards. Generate and communicate EHS performance data. Responsible for achieving or contributing towards EHS targets.
- Additional Responsibilities: Develop and maintain procedures and standards. Coordinate with technical support personnel to conduct EHS assessments. Direct the efforts of others such as technicians and outside resources. Perform tasks such as assisting in the completion of Requests for Capital Expenditures (RCEs), EHS checklists, project scope documents, risk assessments, etc. Assist in the resolution of EHS problems. Provide training.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelors Degree in EHS, Occupational Health, Engineering, Science, Nursing or closely related discipline is desired or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
- Minimum 2 years relevant experience.
- Demonstrate competencies within the following; Set Vision & Strategy, Anticipate, Innovate, Build and Deliver Results.
- Technical experience plus demonstrated competence.
Preferred Qualifications
- Masters Nursing degree preferred
- Professional certification(s) desirable.
