Position Summary:
- The Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Manager is responsible to develop, implement, and refine all EHS procedures & programs in accordance with local, state and federal Environmental Health and Safety regulations and corporate EHS requirements to maintain a safe and healthy work environment. This position works closely with the Manufacturing team on continuous improvement and Safety projects. The EHS Manager works out of our Eagan, MN headquarters and provides support to our global manufacturing and distribution centers.
Position Responsibilities:
General EHS Leadership
- Formulate general safety and environmental compliance policies and procedures to comply with OSHA, EPA, MPCA, and other governmental agencies.
- Collaborate with all departments (HR, Facilities, Manufacturing Engineering, QA, Production etc.) to ensure all regulatory requirements are understood and supported.
- Foster a proactive culture of EHS compliance and Continuous Improvement.
- Participate in EHS professional industry groups to benchmark company activities.
Environmental and Compliance
- Lead the safety and environmental compliance program and all related activities and projects.
- Maintain working relationships with regulatory agencies and auditors; ensure inspections by regulatory agencies are coordinated and deficiencies minimized and corrected.
- Maintain workplace posters, files, documentation, and submit reports for required permits such as Air Quality, Hazardous Waste, EPA, and MPCA.
- Manage the plant hazardous waste storage and disposal needs including the proper labeling, marking and inspection requirements. Arrange the proper shipping of waste off-site.
- Review and approve the proposed introduction of new chemicals, equipment and processes to maintain safety. Maintain documentation and recordkeeping of EHS data.
- Lead the maintenance and accessibility of SDSs for all materials present at the site.
Health and Safety
- Lead all incident and near-miss investigations and analyze relevant data. Conduct follow up interviews and root cause investigations. Organize and present findings to leadership with recommended corrective and preventive actions.
- Conduct safety, cleanliness/organization, and ergonomic audits of facility, follow up on and recommended improvements, and facilitate the implementation and sharing of programs, procedures, tools, and successfully demonstrated practices to prevent incidents.
- Provides expertise and advice to management on complex and critical safety concerns.
- Conduct hazard assessments for new machines and jobs tasks to identify any hazards associated with the task and controls to mitigate the hazards.
- Manage inventory for company supplied personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety boots and eyeglasses and identify opportunities for PPE use.
- Prepare and coordinate emergency planning and lead periodic practice drills for fire, severe weather, hazardous material spills, injuries, etc.
- Maintain files, documentation, and submit reports for OSHA and MNOSHA.
EHS Training
- Develop, review and interpret new and proposed EHS regulations for applicability, develop associated implementation and training programs and procedures.
- Outlines and implements training programs to educate and inform workforce on work safety, environmental safety, and accident prevention regulations and procedures.
- Utilize Learning Management System (LMS) for the design, development, implementation, delivery, and maintenance of resources used to train employees on EHS topics.
- Manage the development of safety training materials and present to employees and maintain the EHS regulatory and training matrix keeping current on employee training and certifications.
- Conduct new employee building tours to explain company safety objectives and aspects.
- Maintain the Safety sharepoint site on company intranet.
- Supports "Lean Business Enterprise" initiatives for continuous process improvement and waste elimination and additional duties as requested.
Position Requirements (Knowledge and Experience):
- Bachelor's degree in technical or scientific discipline plus seven or more years of related experience and/or training in EHS; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Extensive knowledge of and experience in OSHA and EPA regulations as they pertain to the scope of this position is desired. Certifications such as CSP, CIH, OSHA general industry 30 hour card are required. LEAN/Continuous Improvement experience is preferred.
- Has a broad and current knowledge of all government and applicable industry safety regulations.
- Demonstrated ability to articulate ideas clearly, both orally and in writing, to listen accurately, and to communicate effectively with outside resources and all levels of internal resources to establish rapport with people from a variety of backgrounds and organizational levels.
- Cross-functional project management experience is preferred. Project and/or team leadership experience in a manufacturing or professional environment is a plus.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (including Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).
