The Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Specialist is accountable for supporting environmental sustainability, environmental compliance, and occupational safety and health compliance programs and initiatives throughout the enterprise. Areas of focus include Waste Reduction and Recycling, Energy Conservation, Water Conservation, Reduction of Greenhouse Gas Emission and Carbon Footprint, Waste Management, Storage Tank Systems, Hazardous Materials Management, and OSHA General Industry.
The EHS Specialist is accountable for maintaining the EHS Information Management Systems including data entry, dashboard/report development, incident investigation, and trend analysis. This position also assists in the production of the annual Impact Report and co-develops and co-manages annual Enterprise Earth Day Celebrations and other campaign activities. Additionally, the EHS Specialist manages EHS compliance matters associated with permits and licenses as well as coordinates, develops, and conducts EHS training and maintains associated training records. The EHS Specialist also performs compliance-related recordkeeping activities, conducts ergonomic assessments, and manages external contractors performing EHS services. Projects are varied and can change from day to day.
The individual selected for this position must be highly organized, detail-oriented, forward-thinking, comfortable speaking in front of large groups, able to develop and articulate ideas to improve current environmental, Health and Safety performance, and willing to jump in and take on new and varied assignments.
Responsibilities:
- Assist in the day-to-day management and maintenance of the EHS Information Management Systems including data entry, dashboard/report development, incident investigation, and trend analysis
- Develop and update corporate EHS management policies, procedures, written plans, and standard operating procedures; communicate plans, policies, and procedures to appropriate management and staff
- Perform ergonomic assessments for office environments
- Prepare material, schedule, and conduct EHS training activities
- Monitor and assist in the management of EHS compliance matters including permits, licenses and associated recordkeeping activities such as updating written plans, filing, cataloging and documenting certain activities for the following company locations at a minimum: Deerfield Beach Campus, Aviation, JM Lexus, St. Louis and Mobile
- Assist in the selection of EHS products and vendors such as regulated waste partners, recycling services, office ergonomic products, etc.
- Manage external contractors that provide EHS services such as those associated with storage tank inspections, first aid kits, and AEDs
- Co-develop and co-manage the annual Deerfield Beach Earth Day celebration and other ad-hoc associate awareness campaigns
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization.
- 1-3 years of working experience in a related field
- Working knowledge of federal and local air, water, wastewater, stormwater, regulated waste management, storage tank management and hazardous materials transportation regulations
- Working knowledge of Occupational, Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) General Industry Standards and other Health and Safety code requirements
- Experience working with local regulatory agencies
- Working knowledge of environmental sustainability topics such as energy and water conservation strategies, waste reduction and recycling techniques, greenhouse gas accounting, green building concepts, etc.
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, forward-thinking, able to develop/articulate ideas to improve current environmental, Health and Safety performance and willing to jump in and take on new and varied assignments
- Ability to interpret environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) data and identify anomalies or trends
- Must have strong computer skills and be highly proficient in Microsoft Office programs, specifically Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with strong business writing and presentation abilities
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate with associates at all levels within the organization
- Ability and willingness to travel to company locations outside of Deerfield Beach, sometimes on short notice
- Must have a valid driver's license and be able to drive throughout the southeast for projects
