Supports the Business Unit by developing safety and health programs including chemical hygiene, biosafety, potent drug safety, waste management, environmental programs, accident investigation, and emergency response as applicable. Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
EHS Managers should be in a position of influence with site leadership and have regular engagement with site leadership on EHS matters. EHS Manager could manage 1-3 staff.
Essential Duties apply to all Eurofins US site EHS Manages regardless of the scope of the operation.
5.1) Duties include:
5.1.1) Develops site safety and health programs while ensuring compliance with internal, federal, state and local regulations. This includes but is not limited to OSHA, EPA, USDA/CDC, DOT or state equivalent rules.
5.1.2) Conducts laboratory safety inspections
5.1.3) Conducts and documents risk assessments for ergonomics, PPE, toxic substances, and permit to work activities.
5.1.4) Evaluates and controls employee exposure to hazardous substances.
5.1.5) Performs incident investigations, identifies root cause, recommends CAPA with appropriate follow-up.
5.1.6) Functions as the site Chemical Hygiene, Biosafety, and/or Radiation Safety Officer as applicable in accordance with Federal or State law.
5.1.7) Serves as the Fleet Manager for driver and Fleet safety initiatives.
5.1.8) Manages hazard communication compliance in accordance with 29 CFR, 1910.1450 or 29 CFR 1910.1200 as applicable.
5.1.9) Develops site-specific emergency protocols. This includes but is not limited to evacuation, spills, medical response, active shooter/workplace violence, fire alarm investigations, and activities regulated by PPC or SPCC rules.
5.1.10) Leads and participates in site emergency response team activities.
5.1.11) Oversees and chairs safety committee meetings.
5.1.12) Trains and educates employees in safe work practices maintaining compliance with required training programs.
5.1.13) Oversees characterization and management of regulated wastes.
5.1.14) Ensures storage locations and satellite accumulation areas comply with applicable regulations.
5.1.15) Inspects collection and storage locations at least weekly.
5.1.16) Wears and properly uses personal protective Equipment (PPE). This includes respirators, skin, face, hand and foot protection in a multiple number of combinations.
5.1.17) Participates in NSC training events.
5.1.18) Seeks and attends relevant training to maintain technical competencies and be an effective safety officer.
5.1.19) Provides management direction to designated team members.
5.1.20) Trains and mentors staff, supervisors and BU leaders in the area of Employee Health and Safety.
Training and Qualifications:
The following minimum training requirements pertain to all Safety Managers:
- 24-Hour HAZWOPER Training - Train the Trainer
- RCRA waste training - Train the Trainer
- Laboratory Safety or Chemical Hygiene Officer Training
- 49CFR (DOT) and IATA Training for shipment of Dangerous Goods
- The following training requirements apply as applicable as these relate to compliance mandates for additional operations:
- Biosafety Officer training
- Operations requiring use of permit required organisms (USDA, CDC, or USFWS)
- Powered Industrial Truck Training - Train the Trainer
- The following training requirements are preferred:
- Ongoing participation with an industry trade association (AIHA, ASSE, or local EHS trade associations)
- Fundamentals of EHS Management
- Industrial Hygiene
- Ergonomics
- Electrical Safety Training
- Emergency Egress/Emergency Action Planning
