ArtCenter College of Design is searching for an experienced Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Coordinator to join our team.
The salary range for this position: $27.47 - 39.56 per hour. ArtCenter is a 35 hour work week.
Finalsalary is based on education, experience, skills relevant to therole, and internal equity.

Thisis a full-time on-site position with a schedule of Monday through Friday, 8:30to 4:30 p.m. The position is eligible for flexible scheduling and can beperformed hybrid one day per week or required as acondition of employment.
Reporting to the director, Environmental Health, safety and risk management, this incumbent will support the administration, planning, implementing, and monitoring of critical emergency and disaster preparedness plans and policies, including pandemic responses and case management, supporting the implementation of health, safety and environmental programs, Health and wellness programs, policies and procedures.
Essential Functions
Compliance and Programs - 65%
- Provide support for the day-to-day management of the Environmental Health, safety and risk management programs, including but not limited to: auditing and regulatory recordkeeping/reporting, permit renewals, injury and event investigations, safety violations, unsafe conditions, non-compliance activities and document and investigate all incidents involving property damage
- Coordinate and manage wellness programming, including Health and nutrition challenges, wellness expositions, and celebratory activities, working with vendors and Employee Experience staff for logistical support and coordination
- Provide administrative support for overall COVID-19 program management. This includes vaccination database management, contact tracing, case investigation, isolation guidance issuance and overall mitigation protocol adherence auditing
- Audit hazardous materials management programs, perform weekly inspections of hazardous waste collection areas and coordinate hazardous waste pick-ups when needed
- Coordinate vendors and establish protocols and guidelines to address and find solutions for Environmental Health or safety issues impacting students, faculty and staff
- Identify Environmental Health and Safety hazards and working conditions at all campus locations and buildings and take appropriate action, working with the Director, faculty, students and staff, to ensure unsafe conditions are corrected in a timely manner
- Audit department and classroom activities to ensure compliance with regulatory agencies and college policies
- Prepare, maintain and monitor department records, manifests and reports that pertain to Environmental Health and Safety as required by law or College policies
- Conduct ergonomic studies to ensure that workstations are ergonomically neutral; provide recommendations for appropriate equipment to be ordered by the departments
- Develop relationships with departments across campus to bolster a Safety Culture
Training - 20%
- Coordinate and manage safety training programs, including record-keeping for regulatory training such as IIPP, CPR, First Aid, AED, fire extinguisher, GHS, heat stress, forklift, new hire onboarding, worksite safety practices, fire prevention, proper handling and use of hazardous material and equipment
- Coordinate annual refresher training of the databased issued training classes. Manage and update the safety data sheet database and conduct audits in each department to ensure accuracy of the chemical inventory
- Work with the Director of Campus Security and the Associate Director of Campus Security to coordinate regular fire safety, shelter-in-place, active shooter and other emergency drills on campus
Administrative Support-10%
- Manage the EHS and Health and Wellness Inside pages
- Manage and create content for the social media platforms (Instagram)
- Coordinate and facilitate Safety and Wellness Committee meetings to review injury and Safety reports
Other duties - 5%
- Serve on educational or college-wide committees, work groups, task forces and/or councils
- Attend conferences and seminars
- Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications:
Qualifications
- Associates degree in occupational safety/health or related field from an accredited college or university, or significant work experience with increasing responsibility will be considered in lieu of a college degree
- 3 years of experience in the Environmental Health and Safety field or an equivalent combination of training and experience
- Ability to research environmental, safety, and fire codes and other compliance information
- Working knowledge and understanding of all local and state requirements, including Cal OSHA, CUPA, DTSC, Fire Department, and EPA
- Must be a strategic thinker with the ability to exercise good judgment, collect and analyze data, establish facts, define problems, and recommend solutions
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational, multi-tasking and prioritizing skills, and the ability to follow through on projects to completion in a fast-paced office
- Effective written and verbal communication skills and the ability to build relationships and teamwork with the College community
- Strong interpersonal relationship capabilities for effective and sometimes confidential and sensitive interaction with students, faculty, staff, contractors and vendors, while maintaining the highest level of customer service
- Demonstrated experience in cultivating the values of diversity, equity, inclusion, access and belonging into work practices and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships within ArtCenter's diverse communities
- Ability to handle all information with tact and discretion and recognizes the confidential nature of ArtCenter business
- Strong computer skills with proficiency in MS Office Suite and the ability to learn new software
- Certified in First Aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and automated external defibrillator (AED)
- Ability to travel between campuses and buildings
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in occupational safety and health or related field from an accredited college or university
- Associate Safety Professional (ASP)
- Experience with Project Management
