Role description:

Looking to launch your career in Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) compliance? Arcadis is currently seeking an entry-level EHS Compliance Specialist to join our team in the San Francisco, CA Bay Area. This exciting opportunity will allow you to support a growing base of EHS regulatory compliance, auditing, permitting, sustainability, and industrial hygiene-related projects. 

As a key member of our team, you will have the opportunity to interface directly with clients to ensure on-time and satisfactory performance. You will also oversee the preparation of high-quality project reports and deliverables, allowing you to showcase your skills and expertise. 

As part of our Resilience Environmental team, you'll help improve quality of life.  Your work could involve a variety of industrial hygiene and Environmental Health and Safety projects such as industrial hygiene exposure assessments (focusing on physical and chemical hazards), indoor air quality assessments, environmental compliance audits and Safety investigations, environmental reporting support, chemical inventory assessments and a variety of environmental sampling projects with a broad spectrum of clients in the San Francisco Bay Area. 

Role accountabilities:

As an EHS Compliance Specialist, your role is to ensure that your clients' facilities are in compliance with environmental and health & safety regulations. You will be responsible for evaluating their current status, identifying gaps, and recommending improvements. 

Your core duties will include but not be limited to:  

  • Assisting with Environmental, health, and Safety Compliance audits and providing ad-hoc compliance support. 
  • Performing occupational exposure evaluations for chemical and/or physical hazards.  
  • Conduct inspections, investigations, safety observations, job safety analysis and risk assessments and mitigation actions that will identify, evaluate and control unsafe health & safety hazards or risks. 
  • Environmental reporting support (Tier II, Biennial Hazardous and Residual Waste Reporting, etc.). 
  • Hazardous waste management support (program development, characterization and profiling, waste vendor selection and audits, etc.). 
  • Create detailed spreadsheets based on permit requirements, audit results, or other tasks, and meet with clients to evaluate and develop permit-related and overall environmental compliance program requirements. 
  • Support Industrial Hygiene / indoor air quality assessments and help to produce high-quality work products for clients. 
  • Build client relationships and nurture repeat business by continuously striving to exceed their expectations. 
  • Perform other client-specific EHS-related duties as needed. 

As an EHS Compliance Specialist, you will need to be organized and able to track project documentation, regulatory reports, and plans. You will occasionally travel (up to 50%) for this position and be Health and Safety focused, able to comply and steward Arcadis and client H&S requirements. 

Qualifications & Experience:

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Arts and/or Bachelor of Engineering degree (Environmental Science, Biology, Chemistry, Occupational Health and Safety, Toxicology, Public Health; Environmental, Civil, Chemical Engineering) or a college/university transcript providing demonstrated equivalent coursework. 
  • Strong technical writing and written communication skills, strong organization and time management skills, and strong interpersonal skills and professionalism.  
  • Self-motivated and have the ability to work successfully in a team setting as well as independently.  

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 1 year of relevant work or internship experience in the EHS field. 
  • Basic knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental regulations as well as OSHA programs. 
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments concurrently. 
  • Organized, analytical, detail-oriented, problem-solver, project management skills and strong focus on results. 
  • Basic understanding of Microsoft Office Suite programs (Word, Excel etc).

Arcadis offers benefits for full time and part time positions. The salary range for this position is $65,000 - $97,500 / per year.
