Cyclopure is a material science and engineering company that is commercializing a series of novel cyclodextrin-based adsorbents, known by the tradename DEXSORB®, for the monitoring, treatment, and remediation of micropollutants like PFAS from water.
Job Summary
Cyclopure is actively seeking a Full-Time Environmental Engineer/Scientist for immediate employment in the Chicago, Illinois office. This position is available now.
The ideal candidate (1) will be organized, detail-oriented, self-motivated, interested in a career involving water treatment and engineering process development; (2) will demonstrate the ability to conduct independent research, convert scientific concepts into engineering processes, and apply multidisciplinary knowledge and innovative technology to support engineered applications of DEXSORB.
The candidate will report to Environmental Engineering department and support both internal and external projects across multiple business lines, including environmental monitoring, Environmental Engineering, residential filtration and more. The candidate will work both independently and as part of a collaborative team. Critical thinking, problem-solving and interpersonal skills are essential.
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
· Lead the research of the company’s DEXSORB adsorbents with respect to adsorption mechanism (i.e., kinetics and thermodynamics), diffusion and mass transfer models, and competitive adsorption models.
· Lead the research and development of the company’s engineering expertise with respect to computational fluid dynamics (CFD) models, and potential pretreatment processes for DEXSORB such as membrane bioreactors (MBR) and greensand filtration.
· Support the development of DEXSORB engineered solutions for large-scale water and wastewater treatment, groundwater and soil remediation, and industrial separation processes.
· Work with Environmental Engineers to collect, process, and archive environmental big data like water characterization data, geographical/geospatial data, and contaminant monitoring data from laboratory, field, and historical sources.
· Prepare reports and presentations with qualitative and quantitative results and data visualization.
· Perform other position-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
· Ph.D. degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science or closely related field.
· Knowledge and experience in environmental organic chemistry, partition and adsorption processes, novel material research, physicochemical and biological processes for water treatment, and fluid dynamics.
· Knowledge and experience in water quality characterization including but not limited to pH, TSS, TDS, TOC, Ion chromatography, trace organics analysis using HPLC-UV and HPLC-MS.
· Working knowledge of programming languages (R/Python/SQL) and experience using data visualization tools (R/Tableau/MATLAB).
· Knowledge of advanced statistical techniques and modeling concepts (clustering, random forest, principal component analysis, LASSO, GLM/Regression, etc.).
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
· Independent study, research and troubleshooting skills on laboratory experiment design, learning new algorithms and software.
