Overview
TRC is seeking an entry level/early career Environmental or Civil Engineer or Environmental Scientist with 0 to 3 years of experience to join our growing Engineering, Construction & Remediation team in Chicago, Illinois. The successful candidate will be a highly motivated individual looking for career growth and will provide support for regulatory compliance projects; due diligence, groundwater monitoring and site investigation/remediation projects. Compensation:
In accordance with Illinois law, the following compensation range is applicable for the job and location associated with this requisition: $55,000 to $65,000. Compensation will vary based upon experience, education, skill level, and other compensable factors.
Responsibilities
- Perform Phase I Environmental Site Assessments (ESA), compliance inspections, and field assessments / site visits for the purpose of observation and data collection. This includes conducting field work, completing appropriate research, file reviews and interviews, and/or writing reports.
- Coordinate contractor field crews' day to day tasks working toward long term project goals, including managing logistics, schedule, data reliability, and efficiency.
- Attain Pipeline Assessment Certification Program credentials and support intrusive sewer investigation and video review projects.
- Assist industrial wastewater treatment system operations management in the identification and repair of various system components. Coordinate with contractors to procure repair quotes, schedule work, track status, and provide routine status updates on progress.
- Perform engineering calculations related to contaminant concentrations in soil, air, and/or groundwater; review operations and maintenance systems and data related to storm or wastewater systems, and assist with general civil aspects associated with monitoring, assessment, or remediation at sites in a variety of industries, including renewable energy projects.
- Assist with the development of Spill Prevention, Control and Countermeasure (SPCC) Plans and Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPP), as well as other plans as needed (i.e. FRP, ERAP).
- Assist with the preparation of documents including specifications, plans, and reports for submittal to clients or government agencies.
- Other duties and special projects as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science or Master of Science Degree in civil or environmental engineering, or related degree.
- 0-3 years of environmental and/or civil engineering/land development/sitework experience. For recent college graduates, an internship or cooperative education experience with a Civil/Environmental consulting firm is preferred.
- Strong communication and writing skills, with an ability to work both independently and in a collaborative environment, managing multiple deadlines and varied priorities for multiple Project Managers.
- Fluency with Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.). Fluency with AutoCAD and/or ArcGIS or other environmental or engineering-related software applications is a plus.
- Solid technical and problem-solving skills and a willingness to accept short- and long-term field assignments, with some overnight travel possible.
- Candidates possessing a 40-hour HAZWOPER health and safety training certificate or an up to date 8-hr annual refresher course certification are preferred. Candidates without current certification or without prior 40-hr training will be required to attend (and receive certification) immediately upon hire.
- A valid driver's license and able to pass a background check for access to client sites.
