The Position
Portland Parks & Recreation is looking for summer 2024 Crew Leaders for the Youth Conservation Crew!
Job Appointment: Casual, Part-time
Work Schedule: These are part-time positions with flexible hours and may include days, evenings, weekends, and holidays. Work hours can be assigned verbally and depend on enrollment levels, needs of the program, and other factors. There is no guarantee of the number of hours needed each week nor the number of hours worked from week to week. There are 10 Crew Leader positions open. Crew Leaders will lead 5 crews in conservation of our parks and natural areas:
  • Community Gardens Crew (hiring 2)
  • Natural Area Crew - East side (hiring 2)
  • Natural Area Crew - West side (hiring 2)
  • Trail Crew (hiring 2)
  • TreeCrew(hiring 2)

There is one Office Assistant position available. The Office Assistant will assist the YCC Coordinator with daily logistics and operations to support in field programming.
This includes (and is not limited to):
  • communications with YCC staff members via phone, text, and email
  • tracking of information and paperwork
  • preparation of weekly meetings
  • supporting individual crew needs
  • substituting for Crew Leaders when necessary
  • planning and preparing end of summer celebration

WorkSchedule:
Dates: June 10 - August 18, 2024 - Opportunity to start part time prior to June 10.
Hours: Monday (8:30am - 2:30pm); Tuesday - Friday (7:30am - 3:30pm)
Compensation:
Both positions
Hourly rate is $22.00 - $24.00 an hour, depending on experience and training. Crew Leaders and the Office Assistant also take part in professional development, networking, and growth opportunities throughout the season. For many YCC staff, YCC is an entry into working at Portland Parks & Recreation. We support Crew Leaders and Office Assistants in achieving their professional goals.
These are seasonal Community Service Aide (CSA) II positions with a maximum of 1,400 hours in a calendar year. These positions are not eligible for benefits.

To Qualify
The following minimum qualifications are required for this position:
  • Ability to promote equity, diversity, inclusion and provide culturally responsive leadership.
  • Experience working with and leading teenagers from diverse backgrounds.
  • Knowledge and familiarity with teenaged youth programming in nature, the outdoors, conservation, Environmental Education, and/or outdoor education.

Retirement
Membership in the Public Employees Retirement System (PERS)/Oregon Public Service Retirement Plan (OPSRP)

Sick Leave
Casual employees accrue sick leave as outlined in the City of Portland protected sick time law.
