Job description

Bessemer Trust is seeking a hands-on Enterprise Database Manager/Architect to define our target state enterprise data architecture, lead database projects and oversee a dynamic team responsible for implementing our strategic cloud database platforms. Blend your hands-on expertise in database development and cloud environment expertise, including technologies like Oracle, with managerial skills to ensure project success and team efficiency. Drive innovation and contribute to strategic decision-making in a collaborative work environment. Your role involves leveraging expertise in Oracle as well as cloud-native database development. The ideal candidate will enjoy working in an environment where he/she can make a material impact using a variety of technical database skills.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Cloud-Native Application Development: Lead and contribute to the development of cloud-native database technologies
  • Team Leadership: Define criteria for the department on when to enhance on-premise database vs. build in our cloud database. Provide guidance and supervision to development teams, ensuring alignment with project goals and timelines
  • Architectural Design: Define our enterprise data architecture strategy and multi-year roadmap to move to the cloud. Participate in the design and implementation of scalable and reliant cloud-native database architectures.
  • Technology Evaluation: Stay informed about emerging cloud database technologies and access their relevance for improving the development lifecycle
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate with other departments, such as automation, information security, to integrate their requirements into cloud-native database solutions
  • Continuous Integration/Continuous Development (CI/CD): Implement and manage CI/CD pipelines to automate database deployment of cloud-native databases
  • Performance Optimization: Monitor and optimize cloud-native databases for performance, scalability and cost-efficiency
  • Project Planning and Resource Management: Develop project plans, allocate resources effectively, and ensure timely delivery of cloud-native database architectures while adhering to budget constraints

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree with 7-10 years of relevant experience
  • Proficient in Oracle database development. Including database design, SQL, PL/SQL, and optimization techniques
  • Hands-on experience with cloud-native databases such as AWS Aurora, PostgreSQL, Amazon Redshift and Amazon DynamoDB
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms like AWS or Azure, and expertise in deploying and managing databases on these platforms
  • Ability to migrate on-premises databases to the cloud, ensuring data integrity and optimal performance
  • Experience in tuning database performance for both on-premises and cloud environments, optimizing queries and resource utilization
  • Proficiency in scripting languages (e.g., Python, Shell) and automation tools for managing database deployments and configurations
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines for automating database deployment processes
  • Relevant certifications in Oracle (e.g., Oracle Certified Associate) and cloud platforms (e.g., AWS Certified Database – Specialty) preferred
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proven analytical and organizational skills (ability to handle multiple priorities)
