Initial salary placement for this Assistant Professor is commensurate with required education and related teaching experience as outlined in section A2.1 of the AFT Faculty Collective Bargaining Agreement and it is non-negotiable.
The District offers a comprehensive fringe benefit package including employer paid medical, dental, vision plans, sick leave, and opportunities for professional development. This position is FLSA Exempt and may not accrue overtime. Benefits will be provided under the terms of the AFT-Guild, Local 1931 - Faculty Collective Bargaining Agreement. Annual Salaries will be recalculated for service less than a full academic year based on Education Code 87815, any required adjustment will be made within the first pay period. Travel reimbursement for interviewees traveling more than 200 miles, one-way, may be paid according to geographic location (see SDCCD Travel Stipend Policy, Rev 7/14/2011). Typically, Assistant Professors earn tenure after 4 years and promote to Associate Professor.   • Teaching all assigned sections of English which may include a variety of instructional settings, times, locations, and modalities;
  • Maintain currency in subject matter and developments in the field;
  • Participating in appropriate professional development activities and workshops;
  • Demonstrate versatility in instructional methodology and technology and the ability to serve diverse student populations;
  • Participating in program review, student learning outcome development and assessment to improve student learning;
  • Participating in curriculum development and program planning;
  • Continuous effort to find and close equity gaps and engaging in equitable practices in the classroom and in the campus community;
  • Serving on and attending department, college, and district committees;
  • Communicate with students and Miramar faculty, classified professionals, and managers in a professional manner. Qualifications Master's in English, literature, comparative literature, or composition OR Bachelor's in any of the above AND Master's in linguistics, TESL, speech, education with a specialization in reading, creative writing or journalism OR the equivalent. Desired Qualifications
    1. Ability to teach effectively using antiracist teaching grounded in equity and social justice. Experience creating student-centered inclusive learning environments for heterogeneous groups of learners and culturally responsive pedagogy; this includes online accessibility. The capacity to teach and motivate students of great diversity in socioeconomic, cultural, ethnic, and language backgrounds, including those with different levels of academic preparation and varying physical and learning abilities.
    2. Recent teaching experience in English at a community college and/or lower-division at the 4-year college level with a particular emphasis on college composition and a desire to grow professionally in teaching English.
    3. The ability and provide feedback constructively to assess effectively by demonstrating a working knowledge of learning theory, teaching techniques, and student learning styles. Ability to design assessments that are culturally sensitive and measure diverse forms of student understanding.
    4. Evidence of involvement with, or preparation in, non-traditional teaching methods and technologies, specifically utilizing computer technology in the classroom, online teaching, and/or in preparation for online teaching (such as Canvas, OER).
    5. Collaborative approach to curriculum development that involves diverse voices and perspectives. Experience in adapting or creating curriculum materials that reflect the diversity of students and promote inclusivity.
    6. Demonstrated ability to work effectively and harmoniously with colleagues in an environment that promotes innovation, teaching, learning, and service to a diverse student population.
    7. Experience in coordination, collaboration, and leadership positions and ability to work across the college community.
