ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN I

FUTURE SALARY INCREASE:
July 2024 - 3.0% increase to base pay (2.75% Across-the-Board + .25% Market Increase)

Employees in this first working level job class perform technical and engineering work required for the enforcement, investigation, inspection, design, construction, and maintenance of engineering projects and records in field, laboratory, or office setting.

Hiring Timeline & Dates
  • Job Offer and Background Process begins in March 2024. Note: Current County employees may be excluded from additional background screening.
  • Pre-employment Medical Screening: Approximately 3 days following successful background investigation results.
  • Anticipated Start Date: Start date will be based upon successful completion of medical screening or other mutually agreed upon date.

Minimum Qualifications
  1. Two (2) years paraprofessional engineering or surveying experience performing one or more of the following: materials testing; field surveying; data collection and analysis; drafting and statistical computations for design and public works projects; subdivision and parcel map checking and/or real property engineering involving legal descriptions, drafting and research; OR,
  2. Two (2) years of college level course work in engineering or surveying; OR,
  3. Any combination of education and experience described above, which equals two (2) years.

NOTE: Thirty (30) college semester units from an accredited U.S. college or university, or a certified foreign studies equivalency in engineering is considered equivalent to one (1) year of work experience.
If applicants wish to use the college education requirement (#2 OR #3) to qualify, then they must submit a copy of an official or unofficial transcript from an accredited U.S college or university, or a copy of a certified foreign studies equivalency at the time of application. These documents can be attached to the application during Step 1. Examples of such documents include: diplomas; official transcripts; unofficial transcripts; letter of verification; or certified foreign studies equivalency if college education was obtained outside of the U.S.
