The Electrical Engineer III is a hands-on technical lead and serves as a subject matter expert for the organization in the design and development of electronic product architecture and PCB circuit assemblies. This position is responsible for all aspects of analog and digital electronic design as well as capturing best practices in processes and procedures.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Participate in all phases of product development including feasibility, design, verification, validation, transfer to manufacturing and lifecycle support.
• Electronic design of microcontroller based control boards
• Prototype new concepts and architecture
• PCB assembly development
• Development of test plans and fixtures
• This will include but may not be limited to the following:
o CPLD/FPGAs
o Power supplies
o Analog/digital sensors, low light level sensors and interfaces
o Motion, fluidics and temperature controls
o Instrument wiring and cabling design
• Develop processes and procedures for electronic product development
• Develop PCB assembly documentation
• Generate requirements, specifications and theory of operations
• Generate schematics, BOM and test procedures
• Verification, Validation and Failure Analysis
• Testing, simulation and analysis of hardware and software
• Develop hardware, software and test procedures for test fixtures
• Verify COTS components
• Test, debug and failure analysis of PCBs, devices and systems using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and other test instruments
• Compliance support for EMC and safety tests
• Coordinate with various groups to ensure product completion. Transfer to manufacturing and provide ongoing lifecycle support
• Perform process improvement/development analysis and execution
• May supervise the work of others and mentor junior level engineers
• Specific duties may vary depending upon departmental requirements
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:
• B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering, M.S preferred.
• 8+ years' experience with increasing responsibility in electronic circuit design/development and project management
• Experience in an ISO or cGMP environment preferred
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
• Strong electronics circuit design fundamentals and analytical background
o Logical problem solving and demonstrated ability to organize and move project tasks forward in an orderly and structured fashion
• Demonstrate ability to independently design and execute project planning, troubleshooting, optimization and validation
• Excellent oral, written communication and interpersonal skills are required
o Effectively communicate issues/problems and results that impact timelines, accuracy and reliability of project status
o Ability to effectively train and develop junior level engineers
• Understanding of ISO and/or FDA cGMP standards and their documentation requirements
o Excellent documentation skills, technical writing and presentation skills required
• Proficiency in MS Office suite and engineering computing software is required (graphics editing, general statistics, etc)
• A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected including the ability to multi-task in an environment with changing priorities
