Navistar has an exciting new opportunity for an Engineer - Frames and Assemblies at our headquarters in Lisle, IL. The Engineer will work in Navistar's Chassis Engineering product development group which is accountable for all design development and system ownership of frame systems across all our commercial vehicles. The systems include frame ladder (long members, cross-members, front end castings, and sheet metal structures, etc.), cab and chassis access steps and step mounting structures, after treatment device covers, battery boxes, fifth wheels, high voltage battery mounting, and fuel tank protective structures for buses. Duties include design release, CAD modeling, BOM structure, development of engineering requirements and verification plans for new product development. Also, includes sustaining projects including current product manufacturing issue problem solving. Duties include assignments on multiple programs to deliver to cost and quality goals utilizing engineering analysis and experience in metal fabrications, castings, and extrusions. The Engineer - Frames and Assemblies will be required to perform engineering judgment and provide recommendations in a design review environment.
Responsibilities- Research and Design new products and systems for customer needs
- Modify existing products or processes to improve vehicle performance using computer-aided design (CAD) and computer-assisted engineering (CAE)
- Integrate suppliers into design development to create prototypes for Design Validation
- Develop new options and combinations of features to meet customer needs
- Provide technical support and information to production plant team to ensure product integrity
- Maintain production orders by performing containments (interim corrective actions) and releases (permanent corrective actions)
- Mentor junior engineers in the accomplishment of the tasks listed
- Participate in the budgeting process by estimating program effort and preparing project plans for assigned work
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology or Computer Science
- At least 2 years of experience in product design/development and/or computer science experience
OR
- Master's degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology or Computer Science
- Qualified candidates, excluding current Navistar employees, must be legally authorized on an unrestricted basis (US Citizen, Legal Permanent Resident, Refugee or Asylee) to be employed in the United States. Navistar does not anticipate providing employment related work sponsorship for this position (e.g., H-1B status)
- Experience in truck and/or automotive design and development process
- Experience in design release process
- Experience in Unigraphics/NX 3D modeling software is a plus
- Understanding of manufacturing processes such as metal forming, stamping, and casting
- Structural design experience is a plus
- MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, MS Project
