About this job:
Advises and aids project development and execution for purposes of safeguarding life and property against fire, explosion, and related hazards. Provides facility/building review before and after construction, considering factors, such as fire resistance of construction, usage or contents of buildings, and egress facilities. Designs or recommends materials or equipment, such as fire-detection equipment, alarm systems, fire extinguishing devices, and systems, and advises on location, handling, installation, and maintenance. Plans and conducts research and tests on fire retardants and fire safety of materials and devices and to determine fire causes and methods of fire maintenance.

What You'll Do:
- P roblem-solving for new and existing fire safety and security conditions across DPS 200+ buildings.
- Optimizing construction solutions relating to building and fire code analysis. This includes retrofits for our older buildings.
- Development of testing and maintenance programs for life-safety systems.
- Ensuring maximum capabilities/functionality relating to the installation and maintenance of building systems in existing and future facilities. Safety is going to take an ever bigger stage in the coming years.
- Problem-solving for new and existing fire safety and security conditions across DPS 200+ buildings.
- Primary liaison for DPS in determining code interpretation with jurisdictional authorities including the State of Colorado, Denver Water, Denver Fire and Denver Building. We are dependent on ongoing meetings by a variety of people with authorities as well as regular interaction with Legal to ensure we can keep pace with the existing regulatory requirements and those planned for the coming years. Understanding future requirements alone is critical to our 2020 bond planning efforts.
- Network within, and inside understanding of, approval authorities to ensure minimal delays in permit releases. DPS compressed timelines are severely challenged with delays driven by market conditions taxing overworked authority bodies. Even minor mistakes can cause delays in permit releases of 4 or more months and significant costs to DPS including delayed school openings.

What You'll Need:
- A h igh school diploma or equivalent is required.
- A bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering is preferred.
- In lieu of a degree, five (5) or more years of relevant experience may suffice .
- NICET 3 is required, NICET 4, or the ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.
- Have the ability with or without accommodations to meet the physical demands of the position.
