TheRole: S&P Global Commodity Insights is seeking candidates for our 10-week internship program within our Energy Consulting Practice business line which is part of our IMPACT Program. IMPACT (Innovative Mentoring and Professional Acceleration in Commodities) is one of our many programs within Commodity Insights aimed at developing early career talent globally. The internship program will run from June 3rd to August 9th.
The Team: The S&P Global Energy Consulting Practice is recognized as a market leader in the industry. The practice brings an unparalleled combination of industry knowledge, data analytic tools, and strategic mindset to help clients solve complex issues. The practice covers the complete energy value chain and advises policy makers, investors, and energy market leaders on the most relevant topics of the industry, including:
  • Energy Transition Strategy and Policy
  • Emissions, Abatement Technologies and Cost Curves, and Net Zero Roadmaps
  • Hydrogen
  • Battery Storage
  • Renewables and Power Markets
  • Carbon Capture and Sequestration
  • Global & Regional Gas Markets (Including LNG)
  • Bio / Renewable fuels and feedstocks
  • Oil & Gas Exploration, Production, and Infrastructure
  • Oil Markets, Refining and Chemical Industries
  • Agricultural business

The Energy Consulting Practice is growing rapidly and is looking for high caliber talent passionate about the ongoing transformation in the Energy Industry.
Location: Houston & New York City

As part of S&P Global's Energy Consulting team you will support our clients in topics including:
  • Portfolio assessment and potential investment decisions
  • Development of ESG strategies and roadmaps
  • Market evaluation and opportunity screening

Responsibilities: As part of the Energy Consulting Practice, you will participate in a variety of projects and initiatives. As a summer intern you will be expected to:
  • Develop energy industry knowledge in various markets as driven by different consulting projects and client needs, typically entailing supply-demand modelling, legal and regulatory framework analysis, entry strategies, scenario energy planning, economics analysis, reliability studies, and asset due diligence and valuation.
  • Leverage our suite of S&P Global products and models and be capable of conducting a wide range of energy industry analysis and workflows at the highest standards of rigor and speed.
  • Perform timely and rigorous analysis, create written reports and presentations, and present findings to the project team and client stakeholders.
  • Network and collaborate with various S&P Global subject matter experts around the world in the planning and delivery of consulting projects.

What We're Looking For: Candidates should demonstrate keen interest in, and familiarity with, the energy sector - either through relevant post-graduate studies and/or work experience (i.e., industry, banking, or consulting), ideally, with a large or leading organization. Successful candidates must also show technical proclivity - through either their experience or education. To be an ideal fit for the role, you should have:
  • Fully matriculated graduate student in penultimate year of study (graduation date: Winter 2024 or Summer 2025)
  • Currently an MBA student with an Engineering, Economics or Business undergraduate degree
  • Excellent communication and time management skills
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • An aptitude to learn and adapt quickly in a rapidly changing environment
  • The ability to build strong working relationships in a collaborative setting
