Job Description
The Endpoint Engineer is a critical role within the ITS department, responsible for the efficient and secure distribution of software across the university's managed computing environment. This position specializes in using Microsoft Intune and Jamf for creating, managing, testing, and deploying software packages. The role demands a deep understanding of different operating systems, particularly Windows and macOS, and an aptitude for scripting and automation to streamline deployment processes.
The Endpoint Engineer is essential for ensuring that software deployment is conducted efficiently, securely, and in a manner that supports the productivity of Syracuse University. This role requires a combination of technical expertise, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to continuous learning and innovation.

Qualifications
  • Four (4+) plus years of experience in supporting computing technology or equivalent combination of experience and education.

Job Specific Qualifications
  • Experience deploying endpoint device operating systems and software.
  • Experience with software deployment systems such as Intune.
  • Experience scripting in a language such as PowerShell.
  • Experience with cybersecurity best practices for endpoint device management.
  • Ability to convey technical information to clients and other IT personnel utilizing oral and written communications.

Responsibilities
  • Software Packaging and Deployment: Create and manage software packages for deployment using Microsoft Intune and Jamf. Ensure packages are tailored for different operating systems and platforms, including Windows, macOS, and mobile devices. Testing and Quality Assurance: Conduct thorough testing of software packages to ensure compatibility and functionality across different environments. Troubleshoot and resolve any issues that arise during the packaging or deployment process. Automation and Scripting: Utilize scripting languages like PowerShell or Bash to automate repetitive tasks in the software deployment process. Create custom scripts for complex deployment scenarios.
  • Update and Patch Management: Regularly update and patch software applications, ensuring all deployed software is up to date and secure. Use automation tools within Intune and Jamf for streamlined update processes.
    Security Compliance: Ensure all software deployments comply with organizational security policies. Work with security teams to implement best practices in software distribution.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Maintain detailed documentation for all deployment processes and configurations. Provide regular reports on deployment activities and software inventory.
    Policy and Strategy Development: Contribute to the development and refinement of policies and strategies for software deployment, focusing on efficiency, security, and user experience.
  • Collaboration and Support: Collaborate with IT support teams to assist in the resolution of deployment-related issues. Provide technical guidance to other team members and departments regarding software deployment.
    Vendor Liaison: Work closely with software vendors to understand the specifics of applications, licensing, and any deployment considerations.
  • Other duties as assigned.
