POSITION SUMMARY: Supports Physician and nursing staff to provide individualized and specialized care to patients in the endoscopy area.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education, Licensure and Certification:
A high school diploma or equivalent is required
Must maintain BLS certification
Experience:Previous endoscopy experience preferred
Physical:
Must be able to Sit, stand, and walk continually
Frequently bend, climb, reach overhead, carry/push or pull up to 25 pounds, grasping/squeezing
Occasionally stoop, kneel, crouch, lift, carry, push or pull up to 50 pounds
Must be able to speak and hear normal auditory levels
Mental:
Must have excellent communication skills and ability to interact with a diverse population professionally
Ability to effectively interact and communicate with all levels within Bend Surgery Center and external customers, clients and potential employees
Language skills:Ability to understand, read, write, and speak English. Ability to successfully write business correspondence. Ability to effectively present information, respond to questions, and professionally interact with managers, employees, physicians, vendors, and the general public.
Mathematical skills: Basic Math skills required
Job Skills:
Comprehensive knowledge of and ability to implement principles of aseptic and sterile technique
Knowledge of endoscopy equipment use and care
Knowledge of endoscopy procedures and basics of care to include anesthesia and potential complications
Recognition of signs and symptoms of emergency situations and interventions
JOB RELATIONSHIPS: Is directly responsible to the Endoscopy Nurse Manager. Does not supervise any employees.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assists in preparing patient for designated procedure
Assists physician during endoscopy procedure
Handles patient specimens per policy
Accurately completes laboratory slips and culture/pathology slips
Reports observed changes in patient condition to nurse or physician
Restocks supplies as appropriate for the next procedure or end of day
Works collaboratively with the healthcare team to prepare the endoscopy suite according to requirements of patient, physician, and procedure
Follows manufacturer’s instructions for use for all steps of cleaning, high level disinfection or sterilization of instruments and/or equipment
Terminal cleaning as assigned
Assists with maintaining adequate inventory of supplies
Proactively participates in QAPI and Safety Programs
Demonstrates knowledge of and adheres to the Code of Conduct
Complies with center policies and procedures
Demonstrates an attitude that is caring, respectful, sensitive, tactful, compassionate, empathetic, and tolerant
Provides a safe environment for the patient
Communicates safety concerns appropriately following Chain of Command
Documents patient care records and other forms accurately, legibly and in a timely manner

Practices aseptic techniques and sterile processes as appropriate to the endoscopy suite
Wears appropriate Personal Protected Equipment (PPE)
Observes universal precautions
Follows all rules and regulations for PHI and HIPAA protections of patient information
Follows all policies and procedures, including, but not limited to, attendance, timeliness, and safeguarding confidential information
Performs other duties as assigned

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Days and hours of work vary to meet patient or center needs
The Center is a well-lit, ventilated and climate controlled environment. The Center may require decreased lighting to meet patient care needs or procedure requirements, such as laser rooms and some OR/Procedure rooms
Ability to work with medical and office equipment, some of which will have moving parts
Noise level is usually quiet to moderate
May have exposure to blood and other potentially infectious body fluids and materials or toxic chemicals and cleaning solutions
Procedure rooms are often small, and due to equipment may have little room to work around and may necessitate reaching, pulling, pushing
Work in close proximity to patients and co-workers
