About the Opportunity
The pre and post-op technician in the surgery center is a trained technician who assists the Registered Nurse in preparing patients for procedures, and caring for them post-op.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Assists the Registered Nurse in preparing the patient for surgery and assists with post-op care.
- Checks pre/ post op area for cleanliness and orderliness.
- Brings the patient to pre-op area and assists with changing if needed.
- Takes vital signs.
- Makes sure all pre-op testing, H&P, and necessary paperwork are on chart prior to surgical procedure.
- Transports patients to and from procedure rooms.
- Maintains supplies and equipment.
- Restocks carts
- Orders and stocks supplies
- Informs Registered Nurse of any abnormal vital signs, etc.
- Offer patient light snack and drink after the procedure.
- Directs family members.
- Includes family / patient in post-op instructions.
- Coordinates patient transportation.
- Participates in QAPI, Infection Control and Safety Program.
- Demonstrated knowledge of potential exposure to hazardous materials (i.e. patient body fluids, disinfectant chemicals) and location of SDS sheets.
- Performs other duties as requested or assigned.
About the Candidate
- High school education or equivalent
- 1 year of healthcare industry experience is preferred.
- Previous experience in Endoscopy processing is preferred.
- Current certification in BCLS or willingness to complete a course within a month of being offered this position.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with physicians and all medical professionals.
