- Provides Emergency Medical care based on established basic life support treatment protocols to persons of all ages; operates emergency response vehicles in compliance with state law; maintains all certifications and licenses in compliance with state regulation 105 CMR 170.
- Responds to requests for Emergency Medical assistance from the public via 9-1-1 and Computer Aided Dispatch System.
- Assesses, treats and transports patients with illness, injuries or a behavioral emergency; documents all clinical care as required.
- Maintains equipment and supplies; works in hazardous environments.
- Complies with dept policies, procedures and protocols.
- Performs other related duties as required.
- May be reassigned to the EMS Dispatch Operations Center if qualified.
Minimum Qualifications
Ability to perform the following essential functions:
- Carry more than 20 lbs of equipment while walking, climbing and descending stairs, or traversing difficult terrain;
- Carry an adult patient, with a partner, up or down stairs or over difficult terrain;
- Stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl to access a patient;
- Perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation for extended periods of time;
- Lift an adult patient and the wheelcot into an ambulance, with a partner;
- Perform other strenuous activities as required.
- Current valid certification as an Emergency Medical Technician by the Massachusetts DPH; current certification as a CPR Basic Rescuer; current and valid Class D Massachusetts Driver's license.
- Familiarity with the geography of the City of Boston.
