Position Information
The Cobb County Department of Public Safety E911 Emergency Communications Center invites you to explore a career as an Emergency Communications Officer. This expanding career field is ideal for a person with good communication and multi-tasking skills and the ability to work under stressful conditions.
LIMITED TIME HIRING INCENTIVE
$4000 for non-POST certified candidates
$8000 for GA POST certified candidates

CritiCall is a computerized pre-employment test used to measure a person's underlying skills and abilities prior to any training they receive if they are hired as a public safety dispatcher or call taker. The purpose of this classification is to answer and process emergency and non-emergency calls through the E911 Communications Center.
Our agency is certified by the Commision on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) and serves as the E911 call and dispatch center for the Cobb County Police Department, Cobb Fire& Emergency Services, City of Marietta Police and Fire, and the Cobb County Sheriff's Department.

Tuition Assistance
Tuition assistance is available for you while you complete a college degree or certification. Reimbursable amounts are dependent upon available funding and will be proportionately distributed to all pre-approved applicants on a quarterly basis.

Essential Functions
Answers incoming emergency and non-emergency voice and Telecommunication Device for the Deaf (TDD) calls: determines nature of call and correct signal and/or code; simultaneously enters information into the Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) System; and advises supervisors of all priority calls.
Provides lifesaving and pre-arrival instructions to callers in emergency medical situations: remains available to callers while units are in route; and checks medical status.
Forwards information to the appropriate emergency response units or agencies: processes requests from officers and/or deputies through the Georgia Crime Information Center (GCIC) and National Crime Information Center (NCIC), and assist the public with request
Utilizes computer to enter and retrieve data: sorts and files records; and assists callers with transactions and information relating to police, fire, and Emergency Medical Services activity.
Identifies incorrect or outdated information contained in the CAD: and completes update form for changes of street names and/or addresses, and submits to supervision for verification.
Testifies in Court: may be called to testify as the owner of a voice on and E-911 recording and/or to be a witness that a call was received.
Dispatches the appropriate agency personnel to scene through use of radio and CAD System: coordinates multi-unit and multi-jurisdictional response calls; maintains awareness of available response units; dispatches calls to available units; maintains contact with response units to provide information and instructions regarding emergencies; and assists in the coordination of correct response.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED required; supplemented by one year of work experience that shows the ability to maintain steady employment in any field; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Additionally, applicants must pass the CritiCall 911 exam and must be age 18 at time of hire.
Licenses and Certifications
Must obtain and maintain the following certifications: GCIC and NCIC Terminal Operator, Basic Communications Officer, TDD/TTY, and CPR.
Physical Abilities
Tasks require the ability to exert moderate, though not constant physical effort, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and prolonged standing, and which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (12-20 pounds).
Sensory Requirements
Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds, and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
Environmental Factors
Essential functions are regularly performed without exposure to adverse environmental conditions.
