Department: Electroplating
Summary
The Electroplating Room Operator is responsible for performing under limited supervision while complying with established procedures, quality of parts as they move through the Electroplating Room, and performing general maintenance. Overtime hours may be required. Must have the ability to work under limited supervision.
Essential duties and responsibilities
Include the following but not limited to (other duties may be assigned):
- Reports to workstation promptly and ready to begin work.
- Demonstrate good attendance and punctuality.
- Work cooperatively with other members of the team to maximize the production of quality hardware and the team’s bonus pay.
- Follow proper PPE guidelines.
- Correct plating problems immediately or contact the Chemist for assistance.
- Handles proper hazardous waste accumulation and disposal responsibilities.
- Respond to emergency chemical spills in all areas of the Plant, if required.
- Perform chemical additions/adjustments under proper guidelines.
- Interact with Chemist on plating quality problems.
- Strips and re-plates defective hardware in a timely manner.
- Maintain organization and cleanliness in the Electroplating Room.
- Maintain the safety and security of the work area.
- Reports unsafe conditions immediately.
- Follow all company policies, procedures, and orders.
Qualifications
To perform successfully, an individual must be able to master each essential job function satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
The following are required:
Education
- High school diploma or GED preferred. Previous experience is preferred. Training will be given to qualified individuals.
Language Skills
- Ability to speak clearly, read, write, analyze, and interpret company orders.
Mathematical Skills
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts either by addition, subtraction, multiplication and/or division.
Reasoning Ability
- Ability to understand and execute a variety of instructions in written or verbal form. Ability to recognize and deal with problems involving several variables.
May be required to attend an initial and annual 8-hour Hazardous Waste Course to satisfy 35 IL ADM. Cod 725.116 and 29 CFR 1910.120, Emergency Response Operations Level.
The day shift Plating Room Operator will be assigned the duties of adding chemicals to Plating Room tanks. He/she must be able to wear an air purifying respirator. This requires that the employee pass periodic physicals and annual fit tests. Beards and mustaches must remain inside the seal.

- Lifting is required.
Work Environment
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to moving mechanical parts, and chemical exposure.
- Stepping over piping and walking on uneven floors is required.
- Noise levels are moderate to loud.
