Job description

An Electronics Technician installs, tests, maintains, repairs, and calibrates electronic components of power and control systems; designs and modifies electrical and electronic circuits to meet operational needs; and performs other related duties as required.
Current Vacancy Information:
There are two (2) vacancies with the Department of Transportation Services, Traffic Signals and Technology Division. Under general supervision, these positions:

  • Tests, adjusts, modifies, installs, and maintains
    • Computerized traffic signal equipment, traffic camera equipment, and fiber optic equipment with integrated circuitry; and
    • Electronic analog and digital equipment and microprocessors;
  • Tests, verifies and corrects software for proper programming;
  • Trouble shoots and programs various IP equipment for traffic signals and traffic camera operations;
  • Checks, tests, and performs field preventative maintenance on traffic signals and traffic camera equipment, area map displays, CRT, and communication lines;
  • Assist in traffic management during events or emergencies;
  • Designs, fabricates and modify electronic circuitry, electronic test equipment when unobtainable from manufacturers to meet varying needs;
  • Performs emergency repairs to traffic camera and communications field equipment after normal working hours while on stand-by;
  • Performs other related duties as required.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:
Experience and/or training of sufficient scope and quality to competently perform the journey level skills and duties of this position.
Such experience must have demonstrated knowledge of the principles and theories of electricity and electronics as they apply to the installation, maintenance, repair and calibration of electrical and electronic power and control systems; operation and maintenance of various testing and measuring equipment and devices; and tools and instruments used in repairing electrical and electronic equipment; and the ability to read, understand and prepare plans and schematic diagrams of electrical and electronic circuits; and use testing and measuring equipment and devices to trouble shoot and diagnose defects in electrical and electronic systems.
LICENSE REQUIREMENT:
Valid driver's license (Type 3/automobile), prior to appointment.TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE EVALUATION:
