Electronics Laboratory Technician - Senior

Astrion has an exciting opportunity for a Senior ElectronicsLaboratory Technicianfor the Tenants Contract supporting the Astrion Air Force Division.

LOCATION: Eglin AFB, FL

JOB STATUS: Full Time

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS

 

  • Master’s Degree. Relevant experience may be substituted for the degree. 
  • 10 Years Experience.
  • Secret Clearance. US Citizenship required.
  • Understand basic concepts and applications of physics.
  • Knowledge of basic photonics and RF equipment, safety and other procedures, supplies, and reference materials related to the appropriate laboratory, used to fabricate electronic and photonic apparatus.
  • Background with electronic, optical, and mechanical equipment maintenance and repair techniques; including the optical devices, and the ability to set up, modify, service, adjust, and make minor repairs to laboratory apparatus and equipment.
  • Principles and procedures of record keeping, filing, and basic inventory and purchasing processes and procedures.
  • Identify and work with physics laboratory equipment, supplies, and materials.
  • Construct special projects from schematics, blueprints or sketches; utilize machining tools.
  • Able to read and understand technical manuals and protocols.
  • Strong human relation skills to guide students, work in a team, and to convey technical concepts, communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing with all contacted in the course of work.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Instruct students in the use of lab equipment and lab procedures.
  • Listen actively and effectively, identify and solve problems, and facilitate problem solving. Work independently and collaboratively. Plan and organize work to meet changing priorities and deadlines.
  • Observe safety procedures and protocols including those for safe handling and storage of materials. Occupational hazards and standard safety practices including methods and techniques used in handling  lasers, etc.
  • Analyze equipment malfunctions and perform (or order) repairs on optical, electrical, and mechanical equipment.
  • Conduct activities and research requirements needed to order, issue, prepare, and maintain laboratory materials, supplies, and associated equipment.
  • Assist in the preparation of laboratory experiments and demonstrations and perform related duties as required.
  • Set up and prepare demonstrations and experiments working from knowledge of the subject area, reference materials, and with specific instructions.
  • Be proficient in or capable of performing soldering of electronic devices, and soldering applications and techniques.
  • Be knowledgeable in printed circuit board design and/or able to read and work with wiring schematics, mechanical drawings, Gerber files etc.
  • Inventory, order, receive and stock materials, supplies, and equipment for laboratory use.
  • Assist with laboratory setup to include layout and assembly of equipment storage racks, shelving and related items.
  • With government assistance demonstrate and provide instruction to visiting students in proper use and care of laboratory materials and equipment.
  • Assist in maintaining security of laboratories, laboratory equipment, supplies and materials.
  • Assist with monitoring the production, collection, and processing of waste materials resulting from laboratory experiments and coordinate activities with responsible AFRL representatives.
  • Maintain laboratory expenditure records and provide data for budget estimates.
  • Have knowledge of occupational hazards and standard safety practices including methods and techniques used in handling lasers.
  • Design, fabricate, and implement fixtures to aid in fabrication processes.
  • Assist in preparing time and material estimates for proposed activities.
  • Assist with support equipment maintenance and calibration programs for facility equipment and systems and ensure maintenance and upgrade activities comply with applicable occupational safety, health and environmental regulations.
  • Interface with external researchers from other DOD, DOE, foreign and national industry, and foreign Government organizations requiring use of facilities and capabilities.
  • Adhere to all AF standards regarding logistical and environmental compliance regulations and laws during the course of duties.
  • Perform tool inventory and control associated with shop tools used in performance of duties.
  • Operate equipment and machines in a safe manner, observing all rules and regulations pertaining to safety. The Contractor shall follow AF OSHA, and local safety policies. Wear applicable safety equipment such as steel toe boots, eye protection, safety glasses and/or shields, dust masks and/or respirators (must be worn when machining materials which produce dust, fumes and/or mist, which are considered hazardous by applicable OSHA directives or when directed by the supervisor). The Contractor shall also be required to wear hearing protection such as earplugs and earmuffs when noise levels exceed the minimum allowable levels.
  • Work in an environment which requires standing, stooping, bending, and reaching; lifting and handling of objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Manual dexterity and good eye-hand coordination are required.
