Installs,maintains, and repairs electrical systems, facilities, and related electroniccontrols and devices in addition to, all primary and secondary power systems. Conducts preventive maintenance of electricalsystems.
PrimaryJob Duties and Responsibilities:
- Installs, maintains, and repairs electrical equipment and circuits such as wires, conduits, switches, outlets, junction boxes, transformers, motors, and generators in facilities such as pumps, lighting equipment, carrier systems, timing devices, electrical heating units, exhaust systems, smoke detectors, fire alarms, hypothermal units, thermostats, timing devices, Lutron lighting dimmer panels and electrical systems of furnaces and boilers.
- Isolates and corrects malfunctions in equipment and circuits of a routine recurring nature.
- Completes assigned work orders in a timely and efficient fashion while maintaining a friendly and professional demeanor with all customers.
- Cuts, threads, bends, and installs conduits. Utilizes bucket truck, drills, saws, benders, voltmeters, amprobes, high voltage testers, and University vehicles.Also uses standard hands tools, such as hammers, screwdrivers, and pliers.
- Disassembles, cleans, repairs, and reassembles electrical motors and related equipment following established procedures.
- Tests, maintains, and repairs all emergency electrical equipment and card access locks.Transports a variety of tools and supplies to ensure that required materials are available at the job site. Tests, maintains, and repairs all emergency electrical equipment including generators and back-up UPS.
- Serves as a member of the Physical Plant Essential Personnel and as directs staff during pre-emergency preparations and post-emergency recovery efforts.This position will require participation in call-out responsibilities and may require night shift coverage and weekend work and performs additional duties as assigned.
High schooldiploma or general education degree (GED) and one year of post High School/GEDJATC or equivalent electrical training certification course. Must be acertified electrical journeyman (USM certification requirements). Must have avalid Mississippi Commercial Driver's License with Class B endorsement.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA):
- Ability toread and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenanceinstructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability towrite routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability tospeak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
- Ability toadd, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using wholenumbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Ability tocompute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
- Ability toapply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written,oral, or diagram form.
- Ability todeal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardizedsituations.
- Ability toutilize an infrared camera to scan motors, busways, conduit, and circuits.
- Ability tooperate tractors, forklifts and loaders.
PreferredQualifications:
10 yearsrelated experience and/or training.
