The Electrical Engineer IV will have mastered all Engineer I, II, and III tasks. The objective is to perform more diverse engineering/design functions utilizing knowledge and abilities in the application of engineering/design procedures, techniques, and criteria. This position will work with senior engineers and designers to create accurate technical drawings and contribute to the overall design process for our MEP Engineering firm which focuses on the design of systems for business, retail, housing, education, and entertainment industries. The Electrical Engineer IV will serve as lead engineer on mid-to-large projects and will approve and sign off on work. This position will independently perform electrical design functions to utilize knowledge and abilities in the application of standard design procedures, techniques, and criteria. The Electrical Engineer IV will perform quality reviews of work developed by others and will present technical solutions to clients. The Electrical Engineer IV will report to the Electrical Team Lead.
Key Responsibilities include:
· Independently perform all the tasks necessary to complete primary design elements for engineering works.
· Assess project conditions requirements against information provided and communicate these findings required to the client.
· Review local building code, utility, and landlord information to determine location specific design requirements, contact these entities, document these findings and to present to the client.
· Coordinate design requirements and decisions with other disciplines, BIM department, and project management.
· Perform co-design to review design decisions with senior engineer staff and engineers of record.
· Create high quality design drawings using Revit/AutoCAD which adhere to company and industry standards.
· Review tenant criteria manuals and site survey reports.
· Reference client standards and prototypical designs.
· Create electrical systems sketches and designs.
· Edit both sheet and book specifications per project specific requirements.
· Apply and edit standard details and diagrams per project specific requirements.
· Perform required design calculations including but not limited to photometry, voltage drop, fault current, energy code, and NEC demand loads.
· Perform electric system design analysis and properly select between fully and series rated systems.
· Participate in Premieres, project retrospectives and continuous improvement activities.
· Respond to RFIs and review submittals with oversight from senior design staff.
· Travel as required, either independently or with less senior staff for site surveys and field inspections.
· Engage in ongoing learning and professional development to improve technical knowledge.
· Attend client meetings with project managers and senior staff.
· Provide guidance to entry level staff.
· Utilize Professional Engineer (PE) license to stamp and sign electrical drawings and documents.
· Become familiar with prototypical design information for multiple clients.
Minimum Qualifications:
· Bachelor's degree in Architectural, Electrical, or Construction Engineering required plus 6+ years of demonstrated experience.
· Demonstrates moderate REVIT/AutoCAD and office computer proficiency.
· Moderate understanding of local codes and amendments, with the ability to interpret and apply the codes towards system design and calculations.
· Moderate familiarity with building structures, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems and how they interact.
· Ability to provide some specifications writing and editing.
· Effective communication skills within cross-functional team with a focus on customer service.
· Strong attention to detail and the ability to produce accurate technical drawings and stay organized.
· Time management skills to handle multiple tasks and meet project timelines.
· A proactive attitude and willingness to take on new challenges.
· Enthusiasm for learning and growing within a design-focused role.
· Ability to work independently and balance multiple deadlines and projects.
Physical Requirements:
· Must be able to lift to 25 pounds occasionally.
· Prolonged periods of sitting or standing at a desk and working on a computer.
