JOB DESCRIPTION

Compensation

$65,000 - $95,000

Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled Marine Electrical Engineer to design, develop, and maintain electrical systems in sport boats and yachts. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Electrical Engineering and a deep understanding of boat electrical systems, including power generation, distribution, lighting, and switching.

Key Responsibilities

Design and develop electrical systems for boats and yachts, including power generation, distribution, lighting, and switching.
Design, document and manage the construction of new vessel AC/DC electrical harnesses, switch panels, and power generation.
Ensure all electrical systems meet safety and regulatory standards.
Convey the components and cost of the electrical systems to the BOM Coordinator through documentation so the cost target can be met.
Collaborate with other engineers and boat builders to ensure electrical systems are integrated with other boat systems.
Conduct feasibility studies and cost analyses for proposed electrical system designs.
Create and maintain technical documentation and reports related to electrical system design, testing, and maintenance.
Keep up-to-date with emerging trends and technologies in boat Electrical Engineering.
Ensures manufacturing operations are in accordance with NMMA/ABYC/ISO specifications.
Designs and modifies any electrical systems.
Conduct testing and troubleshooting electrical systems issues on new and existing products.
Works with vendors to buy new electrical equipment and to replace any on existing boats that may have issues.
Participate in resolution of ECN and CAR issues for production.
Trains line electricians on prototype boats as part of the new product introduction process.
Documentation of electrical systems including drafting, work instructions and workmanship standards per ISO.

Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in DC & AC Electrical Engineering.
Familiarity with international boat electrical regulations and standards, such as ABYC and ISO.
Ability to design and develop electrical schematics using CAD software.
Experience with electrical testing and troubleshooting.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Minimum of an Associate’s Degree in Electrical Engineering
At least 3 years of experience in a fast-paced marine production line atmosphere
Experience installing, testing and troubleshooting 12v D.C. and 240/120v A.C. systems
Experience in prototyping and documenting wiring harnesses with plug and play attributes in an effort to streamline production line installations
Functional capability with CAD
Strong written and oral communication skills
Must be able to read, produce, and work with electrical schematics, line drawings, and digital picture work instructions to achieve end goals
Advanced knowledge and experience in making electrical terminations between stranded wire and various copper terminals and contacts, typically used in electrical installations and harness fabrication
Installation experience with marine electronics, audio systems and knowledge of data communication networks, such as SAEJ1939 and NEMA 2000

Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
Professional engineering (PE) licensure.
Experience with hybrid and electric propulsion systems in power boats and yachts.
Familiarity with boat automation and control systems.
Ability to function daily under the pressure of meeting deadlines and production schedules
Knowledge of and/or ABYC certification in electrical compliance standards

Work Environment
Must be able to work in a non-climate controlled environment where ambient air temperature can exceed outside air temperature reaching over 100 degrees fahrenheit at times.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to bend at the waist and knees and stand for extended periods of time. The employee is frequently required to climb into and out of the boats using stairs. The employee must frequently be able to lift 50 pounds, work 10 hour days with most of the time being on your feet, and work overtime, whether planned or unplanned.
