A Brief Overview

The Industrial Controls Technician will be responsible for machine or system diagnosis and understanding the controls of our various equipment and the functionality of the PLC programs. They need to remotely diagnose key points in the circuits that a customer could assist with fault finding. This would include faulty sensors, solenoids, communication cables, encoders, and all the various electronic components that may need to be diagnosed. An interest in and in-depth understanding of the machinery or material flow will be key to quickly diagnosing and assisting customers to get back up and running in a timely fashion.

What you will do

  • Assemble, evaluate, test, & maintain electrical wiring and components as applied within industrial and automotive style electrical systems.
  • Troubleshoot, repair, install and commission industrial sawmilling and related material-handling systems and equipment with a strong focus on industrial control systems and pneumatics.
  • Troubleshoot and perform basic modifications of PLC & HMI programs and industrial control systems.
  • Troubleshoot industrial communication protocols such as Modbus, CANBus, & Ethernet /IP.
  • Understand and troubleshoot common industrial sensing devices, both analog and digital.
  • Troubleshoot common industrial motor drive and motion control systems such as variable frequency drives, soft starters, and servo drives.
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, electronic circuit diagrams, hydraulic & pneumatic schematics, and structural prints.
  • Troubleshoot 240/480V 3-phase AC and 12/24V DC electrical systems.
  • Understand and troubleshoot hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical power transmission systems including sheaves, bearings, belts, etc.
  • Report general projects’ statuses on a daily basis.
  • Order parts and supplies as needed utilizing internal systems.
  • Troubleshoot customers’ machines problems and accept parts orders via the Customer Service Department’s call center.
  • Travel to customer locations as needed, up to 60% of the time.


Education Qualifications

  • Trade School Certificate Electrical-based technical degree Pref

Experience Qualifications

  • 1-3 years Electrical-based work experience. Required

Skills and Abilities

  • Working knowledge of hand & power tools, soldering, multimeter, and other related equipment. (High proficiency)
  • Possess working knowledge industrial wiring, cabling, and terminating methods and best practices. (High proficiency)
  • Must demonstrate strong attention to detail. (High proficiency)
