Chemours is seeking an EHS Manager (Workplace Safety Center of Excellence (COE) Leader) to join our team! This position will report directly to the VP of EHS.

This position will have overall accountability for the Workplace Safety COE which includes employee safety, contractor safety, industrial hygiene and EHS data analytics/metric reporting.
The Workplace Safety COE Leader role is a highly visible position that leads a team of subject matter experts in aligning COE strategic initiatives to company vision, and business strategies, by setting priorities, focusing energy and resources, and establishing agreement around intended outcomes. Serving as the lead subject matter expert on technical and regulatory aspects, program standards, and best practices. This role requires strong project management skills and close collaboration with internal stakeholders and external partners to ensure compliance and risk management effectiveness.
The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Provides services, solutions, programs, best practices and guidance to functional and operational teams, site operations management and site Workplace Safety representatives to effectively manage compliance assurance and risk mitigation.
  • Lead COE to develop, update and periodically review EHS standards, guidance documents, training, and reference material.
  • Create, collect, measure, and analyze Workplace Safety metrics and KPI's to discover trends for continuous improvement or to initiate targeted prevention programs.
  • Monitor developments, trends, emerging issues, legislation, and regulations related to Workplace Safety to ensure programs comply with requirements. Supports regulatory agency and external stakeholder activities including reporting, visits, or inspections as needed.
  • Benchmark and learn from industry best practices to identify improvement opportunities, develop change management plans to incorporate changes/updates to programs.
  • Serve as a thought partner and strategic advisor on the EHS Leadership team to shape strategy on critical business and/or program issues.
  • Updates the company’s EHS governance team (EHS Council) on goals and work happening within the COE to gain alignment on adjustments needed, and to evaluate the suitability, effectiveness, and adequacy of the COE management systems.
  • Owns audit program for COE competency and ensures audit findings are trended and learnings are shared routinely.
  • Collaborates with Enterprise manufacturing facilities and internal functions on EHS needs and direction, including reviewing incidents and leveraging learnings across the enterprise.
  • Develops talent of direct team and site resources, monitor skill sets, and manage performance of staff.
The following is required for this role:
  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental, health, safety or scientific or related engineering field.
  • 10+ years of relevant experience in a chemical, petrochemical, or related industrial environment.
  • Functional knowledge in areas of Workplace Safety demonstrating tactical and strategic leadership.
  • Ability to read and interpret complex regulations and to collaborate with internal technical experts, site personnel and other functions to ensure compliance.
  • Experience establishing metrics, analyzing data, and developing dashboards and reporting.
  • Exceptional strategic consulting skills balanced with a drive for execution, thinks with an enterprise-wide mindset. Demonstrates strong judgment in decision making and quickly gains trust.
  • Skilled at change leadership, seeing opportunities from challenges. Track record of being resilient and adaptable in navigating organizational resistance and influencing others to adopt new behaviors and approaches. Visible and dynamic champion for EHS.
  • Broad communication skills and demonstrated experience in understanding of business value drivers.
The following is preferred for this role:
  • ABIH Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Industrial Hygienist (CIH)
  • 5+ years’ experience in a Workplace Safety competency such as employee safety, contractor safety, and/or industrial hygiene, with demonstrated experience in managing programs in a company with global operations.
  • Experience with multiple manufacturing companies and/or with multiple manufacturing facilities.
  • Project management experience, and analytical / problem-solver capabilities.
  • 3+ years managing teams of professionals or technicians.
  • 3+ years’ experience in RC14001, OHSAS18001, ISO14001, ISO45001 or similar accredited EHS management systems.
