Job description

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The goal of the Head Coach is to instruct athletes in the fundamental skills, strategy and physical training necessary for them to realize a degree of individual and team success. At the same time, the student shall receive instruction that will lead to the formulation of personal values, pride of accomplishment, acceptable social behavior, self-discipline, and self-confidence. In conjunction with the Athletic Director and respective Principals, the Head Coach supervises a staff of High School Assistant Coaches and assists in overseeing the coaches at the Jr. High and Middle School.
  1. The success of athletic programs has a strong influence on the community's image of the entire system. The public exposure is a considerable responsibility and community/parent pressure for winning performance is taxing, but must not override the objectives of good sportsmanship and good mental health.
  2. The position includes other unusual aspects such as extended time, risk injury factor and due process predicaments.

Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Thorough knowledge of all athletic policies approved by the Eastmont Board of Education, Eastmont High School and is responsible for their implementation by the entire staff of the sports program.
  2. Knowledge of existing system, state and league regulations; implements the same consistently and interprets them for staff.
  3. Accompany and/or be in attendance at sufficient contests for proper supervision and evaluation of athlete performances.
  4. Be conscious at all times of concern for safety. File an accident report for each injury and notify the Athletic Director.
  5. Treat all injuries with discretion; rendering first aid and following up on the status of each injury.
  6. Exercise sound and discretionary judgment relative to the direction of the Football team at all times.

Staff Responsibilities
  1. Establishes the fundamental philosophy, skills and techniques to be taught by staff. Designs conferences, clinics and staff meetings to ensure staff awareness of the overall program.
  2. Trains and informs staff; encourages professional growth by encouraging clinic attendance according to local policy.
  3. Establish and coordinate the selection process for the Football teams.
  4. Coordinates duties, responsibilities and evaluates the performance of each Football coach with the building athletic administrator.
  5. Maintains discipline, adjusts grievances and works to increase morale and cooperation.
  6. Schedule and coordinate Football team attendance and participation at camps, conferences and clinics.

Organizational, Communication and Public Relation Duties
  1. Schedule, organize, direct and supervise practice sessions.
  2. Send information/correspondence to players/parents.
  3. Conduct pre-season orientation programs for parents, athletes and coaches.
  4. Develop procedures for open communication with parents and athletes using Eastmont School District approved communication methods and technology.
  5. Promotes the sport within the school by recruiting athletes that are not participating in sports.
  6. Form a parent support/advisory group, with a parent representative to the Booster Club.

Administrative Duties
  1. Distribute team rosters to Athletic Office.
  2. Determine and procure team awards.
  3. Complete required state association rules exams, training, compliance and all building/district training.
  4. Make sure all staff, including themselves, to be compliant with certification required by the WIAA and the Eastmont School District
  5. Follows Eastmont School District athletic eligibility rules and regulations
  6. Coordinate the transportation of the Football team to out-of-town games.

Training and Preparation of Athletes
  1. Preferred experience as a Head Coach or College level Coach.
  2. Appropriate development of positive sportsmanship.
  3. Appropriate skill training, tactical training, and positive motivation, and mental performance.
  4. Appropriate attention to maturity, readiness and pairing of athletes.
  5. Is knowledgeable and adheres to the 14 Duties of Care for a coach

Finance and Equipment
  1. Work with the building Athletic Administrator in the supervision and control of the Football team budgetary accounts. Sound fiscal management practices will be used in both fundraising and expenditure consistent with ASB funding laws
  2. Accountable for all equipment and submits fines for the cost of any equipment lost or not returned. Arrange for issuing, storing and reconditioning of equipment and submits annual inventory and current records.
  3. Monitors and assigns equipment rooms and coaches' offices.
