Form of workMAIN FUNCTION: The technician is a skilled person who assumes the responsibility of performing diagnostic studies as prescribed by a provider in the Clinical Neurology Department. These studies include inpatient and outpatient procedures including the following: EEG's routine and STAT, Cerebral Death Determination, Ambulatory EEG's. NICU EEG's, ICU EEG's assisting provider with EMG/NCV studies as well as diagnostic cardiac testing including EKG's, Holter Monitor and Event Monitor recordings independently.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
** 1. Room set up, patient education, clinical history, performs studies as stated above. May include multiple studies for one patient.
a. Provides age-appropriate care to all patients - including neonatal, infant, children, adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations.
** 2. Clean and maintain equipment in good working order with Bio Medical support.
Eliminates physiological, mechanical, environmental, and other artifacts or otherwise identifies same on all recordings. Makes determination from clinical history on types of stimulations to use during EEG procedures.
** 3. Performs diagnostic EEG studies throughout the hospital as noted above.
** 4. Assists physician with EMG/NCV studies as assigned.
** 5. Apply holter monitor and event monitors on inpatients and outpatients for Arnot Health - including AOMC, St Joseph's Hospital (Pysch Center, and long-term care) and AMS provider offices.
a. Order Entry/Log Hook-up of Monitors and Scanning monitors.
b. Monitors taken to the provider reading room.
** 6. Performs EKGs on all age group patients as needed and back up for outpatient.
** 7. Rotates "on call" with other technicians for 24/7 coverage with response time not to exceed 60 minutes. Remains flexible with staffing patterns.
Develops effective working relationships with all healthcare team members, patients, and department staff. Appropriate dress code per hospital and departmental policy.
** 8. Answers phones and schedules appointments for all above Neurology diagnostic procedures for both inpatient and outpatient studies. Fluent with hospital computer systems (Quadramed), tracking orders and entering changes for the department. Ability to transcribe diagnostic testing if needed.
** 9. Monthly Statistics and ordering of supplies.
10. Is responsible for attending all annual mandatory educational programs as required by position.
11. EDUCATION: High school graduate plus additional specialized training in Neurology/Cardiology specialties. ASET certification or board eligibility desirable.
EXPERIENCE: One to three years' experience in related field required. Excellent communication and direct patient skills required.
CARDIOPULMONARY RESISCUTATION (CPR) REQUIREMENTS: BLS certification required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Appreciable physical effort with maneuvering patients is required.
EXPOSURE CATEGORY: Category 11. Tasks that involve little to no exposure to blood, tissue, or body fluids. Employment may require performing unplanned Category 1 tasks.
