Space Center Houston is a space exploration learning destination dedicated to revealing how science and humanity power space exploration through meaningful, moving experiences about people and the courage, innovation, and teamwork they use to expand the boundaries of what's possible. Owned and operated by the nonprofit Manned Space Flight Education Foundation, we are the Official Visitor Center of NASA Johnson Space Center and a Smithsonian affiliate.
We are seeking a full time Educator Professional Development Specialist responsible for ideating, developing, and managing professional development content and programming for educators. Coordinating the SEEC Crew teacher program and coordinating in person and digital resources to drive impact results for educators through engaging and dynamic professional development content.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
- Conducting thorough Educator needs assessments to identify educational professional development requirements and learning outcomes for Educators.
- Collaborating with the Education Manager, Curriculum, other crew, and subject matter experts to design professional development frameworks and instructional materials that align with NGSS, state, and/or national standards and support the Space Center Houston mission.
- Manage all aspects of the International Space Exploration Educator Crew (SEEC Crew) program.
- Developing professional development workshops and other events to drive impact within the growth mindset for Educators.
- Developing content for courses, through research and collaboration, designing training for in person and online delivery, and writing content including facilitator manuals, participant manuals, pre-work, online modules, and evaluations.
- Reviewing print resources, digital resources, and other educational materials that support educator development.
- Developing assessment tools, rubrics, and strategies to measure Educator learning and program effectiveness.
- Training instructors and other crew on professional development resources.
- Collaborating with the Audience and Evaluation team as well as integrating feedback from Educators and other stakeholders to refine and improve the programs and content.
- Ensuring that the program content accommodates diverse learning styles and is inclusive of all participants.
- Managing projects related to professional development, including timelines, resources, and workload.
- Work closely with the Director of Leadership Programs and Inclusion, Director of School and Community Engagement, and V.P. of Education for strategic and operational planning for professional development.
- Other duties as assigned.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in education or a related STEM field required.
- Master's degree in educational leadership, organizational leadership, or administration, preferred.
- Currently Teaching License preferred.
- A minimum of 3 years' experience in the classroom with education programs and professional or leadership development required; STEM focus preferred.
- Experience training staff in instructional methods.
- Experience managing projects and seeing projects through the full life cycle.
- Knowledge of NASA education objectives and priorities preferred.
- A passion for space exploration and STEM learning.
- Innovative thinker with strong public speaking and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent analytical skills.
- Strong computer literacy with advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office365.
- Ability to manage and prioritize simultaneous assignments in a demanding environment.
- Must be able to interact with clients and represent the organization professionally.
- Must be dependable and able to work with limited supervision.
- Available to work flexible hours including some evenings and weekends as needed. Occasional overnight travel.
Salary Range: $55,000 - $65,000 (commensurate with experience)
