JOB DUTIES
  • The EOF Wellness Specialist will play a vital role in supporting the holistic well-being and academic success of students within the Educational Opportunity Fund program.
  • Collaborate with students, faculty, and staff to develop and implement wellness initiatives that foster a supportive environment conducive to academic achievement and personal growth.
  • The Wellness Specialist will be required to attend mental health workshops, stress management seminars, healthy lifestyle activities, and other wellness-related events.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Design, implement, and oversee comprehensive wellness programs tailored to the unique needs of EOF students, focusing on mental health, physical health, stress management, and overall well-being.
  • Support the EOF mission
  • Provide confidential counseling and guidance to EOF students, offering support, resources, and referrals as needed to address personal, academic, and wellness-related concerns.
  • Advocate for the wellness needs of EOF students within the college community, identifying barriers to success and implementing strategies to address these challenges.
  • Create awareness about mental health resources, wellness programs, and available support services within the EOF program through outreach efforts, orientations, workshops, and informational materials.
  • Refer EOF participants to academic resources, including Academic Learning Center, EOF Math specialist, writing center, CAR, and other resources on-campus.
  • Collaborate in the creation, delivery, and support of academic and student development workshops for EOF Staff.
  • Assist EOF staff with the development and coordination of support services for high-risk (e.g., probationary/SAP) EOF participants.

ADA AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Positions in this class typically require: ability to use a key board, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.
Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.
Required Qualifications
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Master's degree in counseling, clinical psychology or related mental health field required.
  • Must be licensed, or license eligible, in the state of New Jersey to practice in stated counseling related field or working toward licensure.
  • One to three (1-3) years' of professional mental health counseling experience required.
  • Experience providing mental health services to people with marginalized/underrepresented identities. Experience providing community programming centering the needs of marginalized groups.
  • Must have the ability to assess and treat mental health conditions and be able to develop appropriate counseling strategies, particularly to meet the unique needs of underrepresented student clients.
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity, inclusion and diversity

Preferred Qualifications, Knowledge and Skills
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Two to four (2-4) years' of experience in a Higher Education setting, working with first-generation/low-income students.
  • Bilingual, Spanish preferred

  • Experience in counseling, wellness education, or providing support services to diverse student populations.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and active listening skills.
  • Knowledge of mental health issues prevalent among college students and familiarity with available resources.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and independently as needed.
  • Sensitivity to cultural diversity and the ability to work effectively with individuals from various backgrounds.
  • Develops project plans; coordinates projects; communicates changes and progress; completes projects on time and budget; manages project team activities.
