Job description

Primary Purpose:
To provide for the delivery of technical assistance and professional development in the design, development, implementation, and evaluation of activities that address the unique needs of the Local Education Agencies (LEAs) in the area of Elementary Math. Utilize an effective and efficient planning process based on pertinent student, campus, and district data sources for the purpose of assisting LEAs in instructional improvement and the meeting of LEA and ESC accountability requirements.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Master's degree preferred
  • Texas teaching certification required

Special Knowledge/Skills/Experience:
  • Experience teaching Elementary Math required
  • Successful classroom teaching experience, experience with the TEKS Resource System, experience in instructional coaching or related activities, and experience working with campus level administrators preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to set goals and problem-solve
  • Demonstrated ability to manage time, calendar, job responsibilities, and travel
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute to team and organizational goals
  • Experience with teacher support preferred
  • Proven ability to deliver content-specific professional development as well as systemic best practice (e.g., campus-wide/district-wide) professional development
  • Proven ability to train and coach personnel in various school roles (e.g., teachers, support staff, principals, central office staff, superintendent)

Working Conditions:
  • Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including personal computer and peripherals
  • Posture: Must be physically able to tolerate prolonged sitting, frequent standing; occasional bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, twisting, and standing
  • Motion: Must be physically able to tolerate frequent standing and walking, repetitive hand motions, frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching, occasional driving
  • Lifting: Must be physically able to tolerate regular light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds); may require occasional heavy lifting and carrying (45 pounds or more)
  • Environment: Must be physically able to work inside; tolerate frequent districtwide travel and occasional statewide travel; regular exposure to noise
  • Mental Demands: Must be able to work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress; work prolonged or irregular hours on occasion
  • Regular Attendance is an essential function

Major Responsibilities and Duties:
  1. Provides effective, research-based instructional support for campuses in Region 16 in Elementary Math through the Texas Home Learning Initiative.
  2. Communicates effectively with superintendents, principals, and the appropriate staff to develop a systemic process to enhance student performance.
  3. Provides support in meeting applicable ESC accountability measures to ensure accurate data collection.
  4. Assists districts and campuses in planning, providing resources, and making organizational arrangements necessary to support districts.
  5. Possesses the ability to analyze and use student progress data to design a plan of work alongside a PLC (both district and campus level).
  6. Provides effective instructional coaching around the ESC designated model to districts upon request.
  7. Communicates with districts, campuses, charter schools, TEA, and ESCs to provide effective, research-based technical assistance to improve student performance.
  8. Records accurate documentation of all technical assistance provided to districts.
  9. Provides necessary professional development to support change or improvement of instructional practices on a district and/or campus in the use of monitoring and evaluating student learning to inform instruction.
  10. Utilizes content and pedagogical expertise to design and execute engaging professional development around best practices in successful PD.
  11. Designs professional development understanding the need for differentiation for diverse district student needs.
  12. Collaborates with colleagues in and beyond the ESC to identify professional development needs through detailed data analysis and self-reflection.
  13. Utilizes alternate delivery methods for delivering professional development and technical assistance.
  14. Incorporates technology into professional development and provides support to teachers with innovative strategies designed to challenge students and individualize instruction.
  15. Sets, modifies, and meets short- and long-term professional goals based on self-assessment, reflection, peer and supervisor feedback, contemporary research, and analysis of student learning.
  16. Works collaboratively with all Region 16 personnel and district personnel to provide quality services to customers that positively impact student learning.
  17. Manages a state or federal grant, if applicable, and follows all guidelines and timelines outlined in the grant.
  18. Provides state mandated trainings, if applicable.
  19. Creates on-going collegial relationships with customers.
  20. Travels as a part of job responsibilities.
  21. Maintains a functioning cell phone and is accessible through this phone as deemed appropriate by the director. A functioning cell phone means that it is charged, activated, messages checked, and mailbox emptied regularly.
  22. Reports for work ready to perform responsibilities.
  23. Performs duties that directly and/or indirectly impact student performance in Region 16.
  24. Maintains a professional level of confidentiality regarding all ESC matters.
  25. Supports the mission, goals, and objectives of the ESC strategic plan.
  26. Upholds and adheres to safety rules and policies of the ESC safety program.
  27. Performs professional responsibilities as required by ESC policies, processes, and procedures.
  28. Manages time, calendar, and job responsibilities to meet deadlines.
  29. Meets proficiency levels of required technology skills as outlined by supervisor.
  30. Incorporates appropriate technology in daily work and exhibits continual growth in technologies as outlined by supervisor.
  31. Performs other duties as assigned.
